Bare bones

I'm not. Are you?

My fiancee had a .75 gallon pico once setup with a very small red sea filter but it didn't have any media in it. Its entire purpose was to create flow in the tank. I guess you could consider that tank barebones.

Simple...I guess, but some of the most fascinating things happen in the live rock and sand. I think the lr and sand make it simplier in the long run for tank maintainence. But then again I'm new at this. Hey, good luck with that!

Well I consider my tank barebones as I have no skimmer and no filter media (sponge, bioballs, etc), and so far I have had great results. My tank is 18G w/ 130W of PC lighting. I have only LR and LS and a variety of corals fish and inverts. I also have an HOB refugium growing some chaeto. I consider this barebones but I have never heard this term used before.
