Hey folks have a quick question .
I have pc lighting and would like to add a bulb that is 50/50 to the current acitinic light , any one have experience with this combo , I kinda like the bluer look . Will it be bad for the zoas and the shrooms , candy cane , and fish . The lights are 36 watts pc thanks

Nope, I have 50/50's in mine, and all actinics too. No ill effects, if anything it's made things better. I am able to simulate the from dusk to dawn type effects. It also gives the corals a great shimmering effect, when the main lights go off the actinics are only on. (check out my post in tank photography and you'll see what I mean)

lighting is such a dificult topic - basically if I understand you right you'll be 3/4 actinic and 1/4 10 or 6.7K right? It will be blue and you corals should really be fluorescent, but you lose some PAR. Its always a choice between the two because (over simplified of course) bluer means less par but better color and white is more PAR but less fluorescing. In my experience your shrooms and zoas will look better with your new scheme - the greens, oranges, reds, and yellows will just jump out at you.......hopefully they also get enough white light to photosynthesis well enough to meet their needs. This is an age old question and everyone you ask will say something different. I would try it, see if you like it, then make sure your corals like it. If not whats another 20$ and get a 10 K to replace the 50/50 again?

yes that is what I am aming for the bluer 3/4 acitinic look , and this wont harm my residents correct .

perhaps the death penalty just kidding we are due to replace them in january so I will try that to see if it is ok we are talking a 7 gallon tank so I would think that the par should be ok ? One thing I should clarify is that this is two 36 wat pc bulbs (72 wats total)

Can we get some pictures of your current light setup and see the change when you get your new lights? I think it will be nice to see the conversion...

yes I will do a before and after shot I wont be getting the lights for a couple of weeks tho , as I will have my sister inlaw get them for me in ohio if I cant find them locally ..... :) our lfs here suck big time they carry alot for fresh and ponds , cats and dogs , and some bird stuff but hardley any saltwater stuff , and their knowledge is less than ..... well you get the picture , they all said that I did not need pc lights for the 7 gallon tank that the stock light (14 wats) was plenty for a reef tank :?: :!: wow glad I dont ever listen to them for squat :) they are such goobers
