Anemome got sucked in filter and its EVERYWHERE!

Sunday I saw that my bulb anemome got sucked into the filter and got spitted out in pieces back into the tank. I got out as much as I could and did a partial water change. That night I noticed the 2 clownfish and orange spotted goby where acting strange so I did another water change. Total for Sunday I did about a 40% water change on the 24G Nano.

Today ALL the fish are dead and the water was still very nasty looking. SO I got some test strips that I was out of. Got home and did about a 25% water change.

Used my Mardel Test Strips and everything seems safe now. My frogspawn is flowing well in the water and my polyps are out as well. Seems like there is just nasty looking water cause of the bits and pieces of the anemome.

Nitrate:0
Nitrite:0
Alkalinity: 180
PH:7.8-8.0

What can I do to clean up the nasty water?

Sorry to hear about the loss but keep an eye on the pieces, they will start to decompose eventually. You may want to try and get some enhanced mechanical filtration to help clear it out.

Get a bunch of carbon and change it out every couple days. Also get some filter floss (pillow stuffing) and run that. Does a great job of collecting fine particles and polishing your water. Other than that, make sure water params are good and stay on top of the water changes.

I just added filter floss tonight as I was letting the sponge that comes with the NANOCUBE collect it. I always have cabon running and the parameters are good right now.

I just have pieces of anemome in the tank and making it look bad. Are water changes and the floss going to be the only way to get the crap out?

Either that or get a a piece of tubing and a pump to suck out all the pieces. A net may help with the larger, but really the best would be lots of flow (to get the pieces in the water column) and filter floss to catch it somewhere. Change that floss OFTEN and make sure to change your carbon a bit more frequently due to the added toxins.

can you suck the rest of the pieces out with a turkey baster? That's typically how I get rid of the little things I don't want in my tank. That's a bad situation. Sorry to hear about that.
