I'm getting some alage growth. Its not hair alage or so I think. It has been on the same rock for a few months. It looks fuzzy. Its not growing hardly at all. What should I do to get rid of it? I have a mexican turbo and a astera snail. I have a conch but its in the sump. I also have some blue legs but they arent eating it. should I try a lawnmower bleeny? I got rid of my last one because it ate every thing and wouldnt eat dried seaweed and was starving.

Algae

If it isnt spreading or being/becoming a nuissance, I would just leave it. I have tufts of a coarse green algae that are extremely slow-growing and are not at all a nuissance, plus they look pretty cool. Algae is not necessarily bad, unless they become overwhelming.

I kinda agree with reefman - algae isn't all bad however there are some types that before you know it they are everywhere and noone likes that. I would remove it unless you know it to be a macro thatr you want in your tank. Example, I had a red algae that came in on a rock that I kinda thought looked cool till I started finding it all over the tank and now I pull it anywhere I see it.

I agree with the keep an eye on it theory.....

I like having some macro, here and there, but if it gets away on you, it can be a real problem!

well camera disk was full and I dont have any more for now. Until I can clean one up i just took my queen conch and mexican turbo out of my sump and stuck them right on the rock. They where eating it within minutes. I also caught one of my trochus snails and put him on it to.

i have a piece of LR covered with that kind of algae in my refugium. doesnt grow very fast at all, actually not very noticable. great home for pods and other micro critters. to coarse for anything to eat it, if you want it gone i would pluck it with tweezers. tangs wont even touch it. hope this helps
