Aiptasia? Do I need to be worried about getting rid of them?

So I have 4 Aiptasia's in my 20g tank. I just read an article saying you must get rid of these as they will kill other corals. I also read that there is a slug that eats them? Does anyone have one of these creatures to pass along?

Thanks
Eric

Unfortunately the nudis that eat aiptasia eat only aiptasia so (especially a problem in nanos) once the aiptasia is gone they starve and die polluting your tank. They generally are not the best solution for aiptasia. I have had great success with peppermint shrimp and would recommend trying one of these first. You definitely want to get rid of the aiptasia though they are nasty nasty pests.

couple things i have been successfull with:

if you can get your hands on a cyringe, inject them with alittle lime juice. worked great.

peppermint shrimp.....at first they wouldnt eat them, i cut one off at the base. once i did that my peppy started to eat away at the base. if the aiptasia is to big they wont go for it, cutting it downsizes it. after that he took care of the small ones too. he needed alittle push...lol

hope this helps and good luck

I think that some one on here has suggested using a syringe with boiling water and inject to the base of it , but yes you do want to rid it since it can and will kill other corals :) Also peppermint shrimp do eat aptasia but they can also munch on polyps hope this helps some :)

I have used a strong kalkwasser solution with success, I used a syringe and inject them right in the center and they dissolve into nothing. Skip

yes joes juice for sure. that stuff is the best. Kalkwasser and things like that can cause fluctuations in pH, especially in a nano.

Its calcium hydroxide, its used as a calcium supplement for your corals/inverts.

I've used all the methods listed. They all work.

I will say that I think that Joes Juice worked the best. And it comes with a syringe, that you can use for the other methods if you run out.

You definitely want to kill them off when you only have a small population. If you get lazy about it, you'll have a ton of them before you know it, and it will take you a couple hours to finally go after all of them. (Voice of experience :) )
