Well reefers, I had some really bad luck this weekend. Before I headed out of town on a camping trip this Friday, I took apart my Aquaclear 150 to remove a small hermit that got lodged in the impeller (it was making a horrid sound). I put everything back together, tested it and went on my way. Easy fix.
Sunday afternoon, I returned home to find my tank lights off. Not a good thing. Upon closer inspection, everything was off in the tank including filter, lights, fans, powerhead and heater. It seems that the aquaclear rubber seal didn't hold very good where the impeller motor connects to the housing. Needless to say, water had slowly dripped onto my table and then onto the surge protector below all weekend. That tripped my breaker, turned everything off in my tank and that same breaker was tied into my fridge and freezer. Yup, all my food was spoiled.
I quickly did a 70% WC. Things were still looking very cloudy and some of the corals were definitely dying. I ran a carbon bag and waited a few hours. Did another 40% WC and things were not looking good. Sexy shrimp, baby pistol shrimp, bristleworms and all sorts of other micro creatures were floating around dead. At that point I decided to move all the remaining corals that looked okay into a separate bucket. I'd say about 70% made it. I lost a small leather, frogspawn, my prized green/blue rics, some shrooms and a few other things.
I've still got my corals in the bucket with a light on them. They are all doing better. I'm pretty upset about the whole ordeal. I'm actually considering starting over with a 6 gallon nano cube.
Anyways, here are a few pics from our camping trip at Garner State Park:
