well i feel another experiment is in order. Although I have had in the past and didn't notice what you did skipm - actually just the opposite the colors like oranges really pop - but currently, I have no zoas under direct MH lighting - PC in the 20 and VHO/PC in the 125. Today I'll split some zoas and throw the frags in the 35 with MH and see what happens. One thing though, although we tend to look at lighting as the primary ingredient in coral color, it is pretty much excepted that nutrient levels especially PO4 can have a lot of influence on color as well. Also i have never target feed any zoas and IMO they don't need to be???? I really enjoy placing frags of the same coral in dif set-ups to see what happens, i have really learned a lot doing this :)

I would be quite interested in your findings John so keep us posted. I am also interested to see if you have a color change. As I said in me other post the observations were made by a fellow reefer that is in my reef club in their set-up and not my personal experience. I don't have any MHs on my tanks right now.

well the zoas in the hex did take on more color and looked really nice but i put them back in the 125 before i took any pics without thinking - i'm starting to get ready for a frag swap in a few months and i was looking at what i wanted to part with.
i took some pics today of the hex though.........

What were ther zoas colors that you had under the MH, I also think that some colors do better under the intense lighting than others. Thanks for sharing your findings so far. Nice group of frags BTW.

i had a couple colors in there - orange rimmed and yellow centered - both did very well, i've fragged a couple more this weekend and put them in the hex, and i think i may place the ones from the 20 in there also which will give me a good variety colors to look at. i'll wait a couple weeks and post some pics.

well this tank is no more :(................... i must have ADD cause i always have to be messing with stuff..........
final comments:
1) hex was too deep - didn't like the view of a deep narrow tank
2) did like the flow all those glass angles deffinetly kept the water moving in a non-laminar path
3) love SPS's beautiful color, nice growth, and just something pleasing about watching the growth tips color up in pinks, purps, greens, and blues
4) SPS's are not as hard as many will have you believe - they are fun and interesting if thats what tripps your trigger

anyway thanks for following the thread and adding your comments - they all lead me to my new journey............with the 22xl tank you'll find at this link
