24 gal D-D Nano

Hello peeps!

This is my first post so I thought I'd make it halfway decent by showing you my 1st attempt at a marine tank :D I like to chat and am a huge poster of photos so if I get too intense just gimme a slap to keep me in check :wh Can you really have too many pics though? :langle

I've been in fishkeeping for some time having 9 FW tanks on the go at one stage and my current brackish puffer tank, but got the urge to go saltier about 6 months ago.

Since then I've researched my pants off and finally decided on the D-D 24 gallon tank that I've lightly modded to accomodate a mini fuge in the back with floss, lr rubble, led lighting for chaeto and non stock pumps etc.

So I'll let the pics do a time line story of the tank as it's progressed so far.

Started in September with 5 year old mature LR and sand

Lots of brittle stars in the chaeto -nice leg stretch!

added some submersible leds

and an MJ 1200 with Hydor Flo

The aiptasia attacked and I was lucky enough just to have one crab to contend with

First additions were two tank bred percs

Some astreas

A peppermint shrimp to get the aips

More to follow in a sec :D

Next came a surprise red mushroom on a bit of lr rubble for the rear chambers

I then decided I wanted an independant moonlight led strip so got one and went about fixing it in the tank hood under the splash guard

They made a vast difference from the stock twin led bulbs and are adjustable :D

livestock...

The galaxea has since gone back to the shop - so wrongly sold to me as being suitable for a nano!

TBC...

This is why the galaxea was returned...no matter where I put it in the tank it sent out the sweepers

Gotta love my reticulated coral goby

The moonlights are really good

Spot the fish

I've had no problems with the tank so far.

I do a weekly 10% water change and my stats are thus
Temp 75.4
amm 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
phosphate 0
SG 1.025
KH 120 mg/l
Ph 8.4
Ca 440 mg/l
Mag 1200 mg/l

Weekly testing just to make sure all is well :D

I hope you like my attempt so far. I'm really enjoying my tank and building it up.

Future plans are maybe a yasha goby and shrimp combo then just build up the corals nice and slow then sit back and watch it flourish (hopefully) :D

That is a BEAUTIFUL tank! Are those pictures of the rics modified? That is some fantastics color in them!

Bah! You are linking the photos so I don't see any issue! Pictures are awesome! (says the man who can't find his camera....)

Thanks :D

The pics are as seen with no touching up :D They really are superbly vibrant. The lighting in my tank is amazing I have to say! :cool1:

I am really enjoying my tank and first venture into the world of full marine and am looking forward to sharing future developments with the forum :D

Well I managed to capture pics of Alfred being cleaned  Jacques has claimed this rock as the cleaning station.

Alfred...don't look now (check out Norm gloating in the background)

OW get off me!

Get your feet out of my eye!

Tummy time - breathe in

He managed to escape Jacques clutches and gave him a wide berth

Finding somewhere peaceful to rest next to an astrea snail...what a face!

Norm wasn't ruffled at all

He thanks his lucky stars Jacques doesn't feel the need to clean him

Check out Edmund the ric

He's really big now! :D

Sadly I have to report the sudden loss of the red mushroom (it was going well and then just shrivelled up totally) and also The Brain who was picked to death by the peppermint shrimp :(

The monti and the stylophora are blossoming wonderfully though as are the rics and the hammer.

I've noticed a slight increase in glass algae since increasing the lighting but am hoping that will settle down eventually. Alfred likes to graze on the glass algae anyway

Lovely shots. I am jealous (I wish my shots turned out that well). Thank you for sharing!

Sorry to hear about the losses, any ideas on why?

The mushroom and the open brain were sadly attacked by my peppermint shrimp.

The mush was making a great comeback but sadly just gave up. I always saw the pepp in the trachy nibbling on it/the food it caught. I moved it off the sand and it picked up but the shrimp found it again and then the cleaner shrimp moved in and wouldn't leave it alone :(

I'm seriously thinking of starting a nano shrimp tank so I can keep them in there and then get more trachys in this tank again as I just love them!

Update time! There have been loads of additions

Mildred still in the strike a pose mode

The new acan frag

my duncans looking resplendant - a small frag but lovely

As you can see above there's loads been added...kenya tree, duncans, zoas, mushrooms, a ycg, more rics, snake polyps....the list is fairly long. I also got a freebie hitch hiker in the form of a black ans white brittle starfish which is behaving itself so far and appears with legs akimbo like a kraken behind the back wall of rocks every now and then

Shock and horror as conch reverts to eating himself in algae shortage!

Clownfish keeps still long enough for a few nice photos

and mysteriously loses one fin

Cleaner shrimp tries to muscle in on the photo action

New red mushroom has baby

Conch still eating own shell

YCG wonders why toadstool leather hasn't extended polyps

More news when it breaks. ;-)

Hi

Please can you post model and name of the lighting on the picture?

I am going to get 24g nano cube to this weekend and have been looking for a light like this on the picture but cant find one.

BTW nice tank so far :)

Many thanks

Beautiful tank, I can't wait to downsize from my 72 bow to a 28g hqi. I lost my Sohal and my royal gramma this morning, due to nitrate spike from trying to clean out algae explosion.
