24 g nano cube or 20g tank

I am still doing research, and I would like to see which way I should go? Do you need any other filtration on a 20 g other than live rock and live sand. Because everyone is saying you will probably have to upgrade the Nanocube, so I am just curious to see if it would be a better investment to do a 20g W/ MH lighting. If possible any 20g setup info welcome on response.

For the 20gal tank you would need at least a HOB filter, or even better, a skimmer as well as a powerhead for circulation. I don't have too much experience with the nano-cubes, but from what i've seen/heard, an upgrade would definately be a good idea.

Personally, I went with a 6gal tank and bought all the equiptment seperately, this way, if i ever wanted to upgrade I'd at least have the skimmer already....

Hope this helps, and I'm sure you'll get plenty more opinions on this one.

I only run a skimmer on my 20 gallon and its worked just fine for me.

I'm actually thinking of selling my 20 to go with a nanocube just because I really like the sleek look of them. Tough decisions...

Well the cube normaly fits all the needed stuff in a single unit. So even thought it can be costly depending on where you are...it still might be cheaper than buying all the parts.

I considered doing a nanocube as well, but after adding up the cost of the cube and then the cost of all the modifications I would have to do with it to get it the way I wanted it, it ended up being cheaper for me to get just a regular tank and piece together all the other components by myself. It all depends on what you want to keep.

If you just want a basic system with a few low light corals the cube should work great. Sounds like you are leaning towards metal halide so the cube probably wouldn't be worth it since you will be modding it heavily. IMO start with a regular basic tank and set it all up yourself. It will probably be more expensive than a cube but you will end up with a higher quality system.
