That's okay Rich,

I did love the LPS look, but it was the wrong move for my little tank. I should have gotten frags only.

You should check out my brothers girlfriends nano, her pics are on this site. NanoAngel and Dragon79. Look them up they have LPS corals.

I love a challange and I've placed myself in a big challange with SPS in a nano cube world.

I really dont' see why you can't do both. If you think about it, you have large SPS now, and you have it aranged near the top, and you can buy some LPS near the bottom to help fill some gaps. Get them in small frags like nanoangel (my g/f) and myself (pico). Good luck with your new "look" certaintly different, but I too will stick with LPS :)

Okay guys,

I read up about the importance on water current with SPS corals. So I decided to create the perfect setting for my size tank, hosting my SPS corals.

With having already one rio in the 1st chamber I purchased the rio 50 to go along side his brother the rio 90.

The end result is even more unified water current in my nano. I have posted 2 pictures from the surface so you can see the amount of agitation I get.

In adding the rio 50 I noticed that my back filtration chamber 2 and 3 performs better. The water level dropped again to the point that water from chamber 2 does not waterfall over to chamber 3. Take a close look at the picture with the two pumps and compare it with my other pic of just the rio 90, you can see a significant drop in water whereas with just one pump I was touching the surface ready to cascade into chamber 2 like a waterfall.

Instead it travels through the intended built water ducts below the surface. I'm very happy about that but more happy with the fact that I can see the small polyps that come out of these stony guys, it's really nice.

I am by no standards suggesting that you follow my lead on the Rios in chamber I. This is in fact my best practice for my intended corals which happen to be SPS.

Also because of much feedback regarding my moonlight only being on one side, I have inserted two 3/4 moon lights from coralife on the opposite side to compliment the tank and get a unified look of moonlight all over the tank.

Thanks for your comments.

Mike

Simply awesome job Mike. If possible I'd like to see the moonlights in action....And a full-tank shot that includes the top, sometimes it's difficult to get a perspective on just how much room there is vertically in the tank without seeing the top as well. You got several beautiful pieces of SPS there. I really like the two green ones. Do you know what color their polyps are yet?

Man Mike, you've modded the hell out of that little tank and I simply love it. Every change you've made has been well thought out and for the better.

Interesting route you took with the SPS. Now, you've got a whole new world of things to learn with SPS. So how are the temps in your new tank these days?

You'll probably think this a silly question, but in my large reef tank I placed my powerheads at opposite corners in the tank to give conflicting water movements.
I'm just sitting looking at my under construction nano and thinking to myself 'where do I place the powerhead for the best results and to avoid the livestock getting blasted around the tank' ?

Hmmm...

How many powerheads and what type are you going to use. How is your return coming back into the tank. If the return is strong enough and on one side of the tank maybe you'd only need one PH on the other side.

Hmmm...Maybe I'm confused. Weren't you thinking of making your smaller tank a fuge? That's why I was thinking you'd just have the return and maybe another PH in the tank. With this setup I think you'll probably have plenty of water movement. Very nice diagram BTW. I'm used to dealing with a couple people who's diagrams are always incomprehensible.

Brian, you are correct, the original plan {Mk2} was for a separate refugium...having thought more about it and having had my mind changed [powerful things, wives...]as to whereabouts the tank is going, I'm back to my original plans.
So...if you're happy with the way things are looking, then I'm happy to proceed. I have the rest of the week off work, so I can play to my heart's content.

Thanks again,

Rich

Small clams do not require MH because they get most of their nutritional needs met through target feeding. Clams less than about 3" don't have enough zoxanthellae in their tissue to make enough food for them from light alone and have to be target fed.
