    Turbo snail.

Unfortunetly Turbo and Astrea snails are snails that cant right themselves a lot, if they fall they usually will need help or they die. In nature then tend to hang out on flatter surfaces so they never really developed a righting mechenism. Trochus, Nerite, Cerith and Nassarius will all...

    Newbie Please HELP!!

Others have mentioned this before but figuring out what corals you want to keep will go a long way toward determining what lights you need. If your desire is to keep mainly fish or mushrooms you can pretty much get away with low lighting or just about any lighting if you want to keep small...

    Skimming...

A lot depends on what you want to keep. Some things like "dirtier" water like Zoa's however as a general rule its better to have a larger skimmer then a smaller one if thats the route you are taking. At worst you can always run the skimmer for a shorter length of time.

    Hard Coating on glass???

I agree with Geoff on the feeding I'd like to add that for algea lighting also = nutrients. I've found that 8 hours of light for my stuff has been plenty to keep everything happy and growing. Any more and I get more algea growth. On a side note I have a magnet glass cleaner and clean...

    Dream Nano Tank

In my humble opinion a dream tank for 2 clowns is a tank bigger then 5g Not trying to be a smartbutt ***mod edit***. That being said JBJ has a really nice little all in one tank around the size you are looking for. http://www.jbjnanocubes.com/index1.html

up up and away, temperature question

I currently have my temp fluctuating between 77.9 and 80.6 in winter and 80 to 81 in summer. The critters seem really happy. One thing I did notice and have read somewhere before is that even though a small fluctuation is better overall the critters are less tolerant of a sudden bigger...

noob starting a 5 gal nano

In regards to using saltwater from the ocean. Out here in California I would never dream of using ocean water directly. Not sure what Hawaii would be like. First off there are far to many polutents in the water close to shore so at the very least you would need to get the water a ways out...

    gule live rock or not

Something I do that has worked out well for me is drilling holes in the rocks involved and using wooden dowels to pin them together. The hole does not need to be big or deep. Depending on the size of the rocks 1/2 in to 1 in deep is plenty in each rock. Just try to make the drill hole and...

    Finally put my tank together...

More water movement in the affected area will help as well. That stuff likes to start up in areas of low current.

Newb First Post (Alas, a sad one)

Sorry about your goby :cryb: First things that come to mind are acclimation and water temp or a combo of both. If the little guy got to stressed out it can make them vulnerable to various parasites. Also is there a film on the top of the water, sort of an oily slick look? Lack of...

    AUTO TOP OFF

How about a mental picture for now :thinkerg I have a 28g open top Eco mini this should give you an idea of what things look like. http://ecominiaquarium.com/ As you can imagine with the open top and a fan blowing across the water evaporation is a major issue and manual top off was...

    wat eats green hair algea?

The above suggestions are the ideal approach and getting in the habit of good maintenance is always a good thing. If you have exhausted all of your "natural" means of clearing up the algae this really does work wonders. http://www.weissorganics.com/algaemagic.html Once again I would...

How much and what kind of substrate?

I have about 3/8ths to 1/2 inch of Oolite as my substrate for cosmetic reasons and for something else for me to clean ;-) I have no intent on keeping any sand sifting fish however.

    Chillers for 28g nano

I have the same size tank as you with the same lighting set up and currently run a JBJ Mini Arctica 1/15hp. It works very well. One nice feature about the JBJ's that I like is there required flow rate. They do not need a high flow rate to be effective. 110gph for the Mini is the minimum...

    Suggestions for a nano newbie

Hi guys, what a wonderful and informative site! Though I'm not new to saltwater reefs I am completely new to nano's, no experience what so ever. My previous experience was a 200g reef which ran from 1987 to 1998. Sadly I had to abandon it due to moving and have not been active in the...
