    Smoking Goni?

This evening we noticed something coming out of the mouth of many polyps on our Goniopora stokesi. Has anyone else noticed this or might know what it may be?

Skip, Thanks for the info! A question though, are Reef Bugs a supplement for the tank or a target feeding solution? Deuce11705

    Coral calamity...

Quick update... the flowerpot coral seems to be coming out of it's temperamental stage. Its polyps are starting to open back up. I thought I had noticed some bleaching on the perimeter of the coral, but once it opened up, the bleaching seemed to go away. Not sure what all of that was about yet...

    Coral calamity...

Three days ago we purchased a Goni sp. (Flowerpot) from the LFS. It seems to be somewhat tempermental-opening for a while and then closing. Today it has opened very little. Another thing that kind of freaked us out is that, also today, part of our Anthelia sp. has "shrank" and turned a purplish...

    Lighting Query

Thanks for the link, nickleslik! I think that's exactly what we're looking for. We build cabinets and furniture for a living, so I'm sure building a hood for our tank won't be a problem at all. Actually, we were thinking of making hoods and stands for tanks, so who knows. Anyway, thanks again!

There are also little hairs? all over it except for the end of the branches. The hair is similar to velvet on deer antlers.

    Needing help with coral ID...

Yes, all the branches come together. It's formed like a little tree with a main trunk and branches extending outward. The texture is smooth. Though it does appear to have very, very tiny pores. It is a soft, yet firm, specimen.

    Marine fleas?!?

Thanks for the heads up that they are amphipods!! I did some research on them on reefkeeper.com and found out that the kind we have are a variety of gammaridean. It stated that most of the types found in aquaria are herbivores or detrivores, but there are some which are carnivores. It showed a...

    Marine fleas?!?

Hey guys! Last night I decided to take a look at my tank with the lights off using a flashlight. It was interesting. I noticed one end of my LR was covered in what looked to be like fleas. They have 2 large antennae (sp?) and 2 small antennae. At first I thought they were shrimp because they...

    Needing help with coral ID...

One more thing, which makes me unsure if that is what it is, is that LiveAquaria stated that the branches are flat and blade-like, but the pic doesn't look that way, and the coral that I have has round branches, not flat. Thanks again!

    Needing help with coral ID...

I have been doing some looking around for different corals to maybe one day add to my tank, when I came across a pic of something that looks like what I have. It is a Green Lace Gorgonian. Could this be what I have? I found the pic on the LiveAquaria site thru Drs. Foster & Smith.

    Needing help with coral ID...

Today, as I was walking along the beach, I saw this brilliant little coral laying there. It looked as though it had a base with root-looking stems on it. Do you know yet where I'm going with this? Ok, I may not be the brightest crayon in the box for putting it in my tank, but was wondering what...

Thanks for the replies, We have searched on the web for bulbs that would give us more light, and we have determined that because its an eclipse, 15 watt is all they make for that style of canopy anything larger would damage the canopy , so we are...

    Lighting Query

We have a 12 gal. Eclipse system, with a 15 watt compact florescent light that came with the set up. We have an Anthelia Coral and Button Polyp and are wondering if this is enough lighting ? The anthelia isn't looking as well as it did at the LFS. Any advice is appreciated, Thanks Duece11705
