    12 Gallon Nanocube DX

2 Years later.... It's been about 2 years since I was handed down the 12 gal nanocube DX from my friend. One major upgrade to the 28 gal HQI, many deaths, and $$$$ later....here's a quick snapshot of where I am today. Not quite as good as I'd like to be, but I think in ok shape.

    ReefKeeper2

Thank you. It looks like $269 seems to be the going rate. It looks like a pretty good upgrade to have. Seems to have a lot of different functionality and controls a lot of things. More than one may need, but I think may bring some extra peace of mind.

    ReefKeeper2

Can anyone provide general feedback regarding the ReefKeeper2? I have been advised that this is a good addition to have. I was wondering if anyone can recommend on where to buy them from as well. I am thinking of getting one for my new tank. Thank you!!!

    28g Nano-Cube HQI

Hi. I currently have a 12g Nano-Cube DX which I've maintained for the past year. I believe the new 28g Nano-Cube HQI by JBJ is close to being available. Can anyone provide feedback and thoughts of the new cube and enhancements made? Pros and Cons, etc. Thank you!

    Empty Snail Shells

Quick (and probably silly) question....why are fighting conchs not ok for nano's? They seem to do a good job keeping the sand surface clean. Maybe they should have more space than a nano can provide? Thanks again everyone for all the insight. chris

    Empty Snail Shells

I am thinking it is something that goes on when the lights are off. I think it would be the hermits if I saw one of the snail shells on the hermit. But I don't believe I've seen that yet. In addition, the fighting conchs have also been emptied...and no crab can fit into their shells. It is...

    Empty Snail Shells

Hi. My friend has been finding empty snail shells in his tank lately. We just stocked him up with a good amount of snails and the majority of them are now empty shells. He has had the tank (nanocube 24dx) for a while and it is stocked with corals, anemones, a clownfish, purple dottyback...

    12 Gallon Nanocube DX

Just posted an updated picture (up there all the way at the top). I think I'm getting the hang of it. Waiting to find a good (larger tank) home for the pink leather coral. He is absolutely beautiful and I haven't seen any store with as long "tentacles" as my current one has. They usually...

    Toadstool Mushroom Leather Coral

I finally had the balls to cut the leather coral off the live rock. To my surprise, he opened up the next day as he was tied down to a new small piece of live rock. In addition, it seems to be growing back on the piece where it was attached. The leftover "skin" from where it was is growing...

Got a gorilla crab is it bad?

How would one fish out crabs that dwell in the rocks? I have a few small crabs inhabbiting the live rock. Don't know what they are, but they do have small black claws. I don't think it's possible to nab him with a net when he is crawling on the rock. How are you guys catching these things?

    Pom Pom-less Pom Pom Crab

Yes Jesse, mine looks like your picture, but...less the anemones and some legs. Mine only has 3 legs on one side and 2 on the other, not counting the arms with pinchers. So he has 5 legs and 2 arms. Maybe he is missing a few, but he seems to be ok. I've seen him crawl out in the evening and...

    Pom Pom-less Pom Pom Crab

One of my friends picked out a neat crab over the weekend and we threw it into my tank. I've identified it as a pom pom crab, who seems to be peaceful. But this one does not have the anemones on his arms (the pom poms). Can they survive without their "pom poms"?

    Toadstool Mushroom Leather Coral

Thanks John & Erik. I have a couple of follow-up questions. What do you mean by fresh mix? And what would you do with the needle and threat? (Stitch the base closed after it is cut off the rock?) Does this process kill the coral? I am hoping to safely remove the coral and hand it over to...

    Toadstool Mushroom Leather Coral

Hi. I have a toadstool mushroom leather coral that seems to be thriving in my 20 gallon nanocube. Is there a way to "trim" him down? Or should he be taken out of the tank and given to someone with a bigger tank? If he were taken out, is there a safe way to get him out without removing the...

    Feather Duster pulled from "body"

The feather duster is done. He either died on his own or the hermits got to him. Maybe both. I guess it is true that the first 24 hours after acclimation is the most cruticial time for new things into one's tank. :( This is a little sad, but I guess you win some loose some.

    Feather Duster pulled from "body"

Thank you, Mike and Erik. I woke up this morning to find the feather duster has attached itself to a piece of a loose rock. Hopefully that means he is still hanging on. However, there was a hermit crab also poking at his body, which a few scratches in his body. I don't know, but hope for the...

    Feather Duster pulled from "body"

Are the clear cob web stuff safe for the other things in the tank? I've been trying to push that stuff towards the filter for the past hour. The worm still has its feathers, but I think he is a goner. How does one know if its dead or not? ugh! I thought I was doing ok with caring for my...

    Feather Duster pulled from "body"

I just bought a beautiful Hawaiian feather duster today. Acclimated it to the temperature of the tank, then with a few cups of water over time. Then we found a nice spot for him in the tank and placed him. All was well when we left for dinner. When we came back, there were cob web like...

    12 Gallon Nanocube DX

I removed what was floating around when I got home last night. The clean up crew pretty much cleaned out the shell. Knock on wood, but everything else in the tank seems to be doing ok. No more scallops for me.

    12 Gallon Nanocube DX

I just had my first casualty. I got a fire scallop on Sunday. He looked good yesterday and I thought he would be a nice addition to the tank. I think one of my hermit crabs got to him and shredded him up. When I got home today, I saw one of the crabs over the scallop shell feasting. I...
