My first Pico tank! New pics and Progress every week.

New tank pics It was like Christmas in August last Thursday when my frag pack of zoas arrived from Sam at Marine Flora. I ordered the 5 frag baby pack and was surprised to find 10 frags in the box when I opened it up. Everyone is acclimated and happy in their new home. I know that there are...

My first Pico tank! New pics and Progress every week.

I am going to keep it simple for now and just put in some zoas and mushrooms, maybe a frogspawn or a hammer or two. I got the zoa from Tong's in Fountain Valley. 20 bucks for that frag! It has around 30 polyps on it. Pretty good deal I think. -Mike

    Chemipure

Eddy, I went and bought a 1/2 unit of chemipure, so I won't need the 1 unit. It's yours if you want it. I'll take the frag! I'm going to be at work late tonight but will be free tomorrow afternoon. PM me and we can set something up. -Mike

    Chemipure

The 10 oz. size of Chemipure that I bought the other was just too big for my AC20. I should've been smarter when looking at the bottle and looking at the filter and they were roughly the same size, but hey, spatial relations aren't my thing. lol. The LFS I bought it from wouldn't take it back...

My first Pico tank! New pics and Progress every week.

Here are some new pics of the tank. I picked up a small orange zoo frag and some snails last night. I'm off and running now... I will be ordering some more zoos next week and will post some pics. I have definitely been bitten by the bug and just want to put everything in at once, but I am...

    Too much carbon?

Thanks for the help. I am going to have to take back the 1 unit anyway. There is no way I am going to be able to shoehorn that bag into an AC20. -Mike

    Too much carbon?

Ok.. I have another stupid question. I finally ditched the shady HOB filter that came with my 3 gal pico and bought an Aquaclear AC20 and some Chemipure. The only size the LFS had of the Chemipure was the 10 oz./1 unit size. I know Mike Guerrero used only the 1/2 unit size in his pico and I...

    Los Angeles Times Article

For anyone that is interested, The L.A. Times is running a 5-part story on the effects of pollution, deforestation and urban development on our oceans. Here's the link www.latimes.com/oceans . Today's story is about toxic algae that poison the brains of marine mammals. GREAT STORY! -Mike

My first Pico tank! New pics and Progress every week.

As I kind of figured, the little Rio 50 died on me. It started making this really loud buzzing sound, started to vibrate and just kind of siezed up on me!? Too bad the pump is sealed, as I really wanted to take it apart and see what the deal was. Oh well, you get what you pay for. I'm going...

    Scratches in the GLASS

One trick is to use some plain ol' white paste toothpaste. It fills the scratch in nicely and makes it invisible. Probably not advised on the inside of your tank though. 3M makes a rubbing compound that is a good scratch remover and is totally organic. I've used it on glass and it works well...

    No power...the aftermath

Hot as the suface of the sun. Sorry for the loss Roo. I guess I have been one of the lucky ones. For some reason all the rolling blackouts have missed my area, not that I'm complaining. I must have built up some good Karma over the years. It's been over 100 degrees for a week in Norwalk and...
