I haven't seen it shift through any sand, but it just may be frightened. We actually took him back to the beach, but there were 100's of them in the tide pools.
Yeah, I can get live stock from the ocean, but some stuff isn't that easy to catch. For instance, I have a aiptasia problem, but can't get a peppermint shrimp, and I doubt I could find one while diving.
yeah, especially since I can't get any live animals shipped to hawaii, and none of the LFS sell coral, or even tank cleaners for that matter.....
Guess I'm going to get good at diving.....
Yeah, that sounds like him. I haven't actually seen all of him, just a glimpse of a leg or two. My wife actually found him because of the stuff he flung up while eating. I'm thinking I'll just take the rock out with him in, its the rock with the bubble algea anyways.
Ok, so after a day of the nozzle being pointed at the surface of the water my pH is now a solid 8.0, maybe 8.3 on the test scale. Also I have noticed more of a drop in water level due to evaporation, and my temps are now hovering around 80, instead of 82. Looks like that was a great move, thanks...
I also ordered a pH meter, so hopefully I'll know what my pH is beyond any doubt.
I was thinking of getting the fission nano skimmer as well, any thoughts?
Right now for filtration I have one sponge holding up a bag of carbon in the first chamber and LR rubble in the second chamber...
I moved the nozzle to point at the surface, I'll test again in a few hours. I just ordered a new Salifert test kit from marinedepot.com. It should be here next week, so I'll see if it was the test kit.
I don't have a problem taking the sand out, I'd rather do it right from the beginning than deal with constant problems. So where does one get the Oolic Sugar and/or reef crystals? Is that what you recommend for substrate?
Yeah, I wanted to ask about that. I checked the salinity (35ppm) of the sw that I used to transport the sand and rock back with, and adjusted my water accordingly. Afterward I check the pH, the sw was 8.3, and mine was between 7.7 and 8.0. I don't know how to raise my pH, or what band I should...
