Do I need to add a powerhead?

I am cycling my 15 g. AGA. I have an AquaClear 50 hanging off the back. Do I need to add a powerhead for more water movement? And if so, what size/kind? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

live sand vs. live rock? and more...

On my 15 gallon AGA, I have an AquaClear 50 filter hanging off the back. In the filter chamber, I put two of the foam sponges (no carbon). So, are you saying I can/should/could remove the foam and put LR rubble in there instead? That sounds pretty cool.

    Bugs in my tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Day 7 of my cycling period, I too have bugs running around, crawling around, and swimming around. Little tiny things, barely visible to the naked eye. Still no amonia spikes, though. Everything is 0. I'll keep watching. I could stare at those darn rocks for hours.

Should I turn off filter while feed'g Live Phytoplankton?

I am feeding DT Live Marine Phytoplankton to my little reef because I have a featuer duster in there. (My tank is cycling.) Should I turn off the filter temporarily while the phtyoplankton is swirling around in the water? The directions for Marine Snow say to turn off the filter for about an...

Okay, I'm in Day 3 of Cycling...how long do I wait?

Thanks, djconn. Do you suggest turning off the lights to keep down the algae growth? I have turned them off, as you suggested (except for occasional sneak-peaks at the rocks; they look so cool with the lights on!) :) I do have one teeny tiny feather duster that came with one of the live...

Okay, I'm in Day 3 of Cycling...how long do I wait?

I am in Day 3 (drum roll, please) of cycling my first nano reef tank. It's an AGA 15g. with live sand and live rock, Nutri-SeaWater, heater (80 degrees), mechanical filter, and a 65w. Satellite PC light. The salinity is reading perfect, all water quality tests are reading good. How long do I...

    feeding live food

I just bought some DT's Live Marine Phytoplankton. Had it delivered overnight from CA in a fridge pack (it has to stay cold). I'll feed it to my feather dusters and other filter feeding guys, as soon as I have some. I'm just in day 3 of my cycling period right now.... and waiting oh, so patiently...

Major Happy Dance! My new LR came w/ a teeny feather duster!

Oh, if I got a little baby brittle star, I would faint!! No doubt about it. I picked up my second load of LR tonight and put it in. I'm so excited!! I think I'll need more, though. I'll have to try arranging it and see how it looks. I think I'm as excited to be getting the LR in as anything else!!

Lighting for my AGA 20g. H reef tank...

What do I cover the tank with then? I have four cats. I can't leave it completely uncovered. One of my cats is stupid enough to jump in and ask questions later. :)

Lighting for my AGA 20g. H reef tank...

I found this web page that has a handy lighting/needs reference chart, based on the size of the tank and what you want to keep in it: http://www.marineandreef.com/Info/light ... _hood.html It looks to be very handy, and it says the same thing you guys just said, too. I think I might want...

Lighting for my AGA 20g. H reef tank...

I can return the light. I paid $108 for it. I have a glass canopy. Can the lights suggested in the previous post sit on top of a glass canopy?

Lighting for my AGA 20g. H reef tank...

I am setting up my first reef tank. It's a AGA 20g. high tank. I told the LFS that I wanted a low light tank -- I was only going to keep things that didn't need a lot (or any!) of light (mostly because I'm a chicken and don't understand light requirements well). Anyway, they sold me this...

Major Happy Dance! My new LR came w/ a teeny feather duster!

I am setting up my first reef tank. It started out as a 6. NanoCube, but it has instead evolved into a AGA 20H instead. Long story... But anyway, last night I put in some live rock that I bought at a local marine livestock distributor, to begin the cycling period, and not five minutes later...

What's the name of the marine fish that has a long nose...

Oh, wow! Thanks for those links! It was the first one -- the Bird Wrasse. I saw a tiny little one at the LFS yesterday and wanted to find out if he'd be a candidate for my tank, but alas he'll get too big and he's too aggressive. So, no go. But they are sooo cute. They look like little...

    Moving a tank

R0oonmac, I think you shouldn't carry a tank full of water (even a small one). It's too heavy and it will put strain on the glass. You could damage the integrity of the tank. I'm getting ready to move my 6 gallon tank (I chose a bad spot for it, darn it!). I'm going to siphon the water into...

Questions about the filtration setup in new NanoCube 6g.

Thanks for the replies. I took out the bioballs and the ceramic rings. I love the look of the JBJ NanoCube, and it's quiet operation, but trying to work in the filtration area is a real pain. It's very difficult to get things in and out of the filtration chambers.... very tight fit. That's the...

Can I have an Orange Spotted Shrimp Goby in a 6 g. Nanocube?

Thanks! I don't have a problem going fish-free in this little 6g. Nano. I'd rather play it safe than have a fish who feels too crowded. After I have the 6g. under control, I will probably do a larger marine tank to have a few fish. When you say a zoa display tank, what exactly does that...
