    Adjusting Salinity - 24G Aquapod

Surprisingly the LFS was going to use the same MarineLabs Instant Ocean Hydrometer that we have. I also have a hydrometer that I use for measuring specific gravity for beer, and could use that to take another sample.

    Adjusting Salinity - 24G Aquapod

We noticed the other day after a water change our salinity is about 1.036 which is quite high for a reef tank. I have seen some questions about salinity around, but mine is specific to reducing the salinity. Our LFS said we should pull about 4 gallons of salt water and replace with RO or...

    Shrimp behavior

I half figured the harassment issue. So I watched him in "his" area last night and I think my Fire Angel is the one pestering him. He goes to the shrimp's location and the shrimp will lunge at him. The Fire Angel is pretty skittish, so he bolts, but then comes back. Could be the source of...

    ghetto chiller

We've tried frozen water bottles for the heat wave we've had here in California. They seem to bring it down for about 20 mins or so one degree at most. Besides they do melt really fast, so they seem almost worthless. Wonder if the blue ice takes longer to melt.....

    Shrimp behavior

We have a scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp who used to hang out in the front area of the tank, messing around and what not. Now he just sits behind the live rock all day. I don't recall ever seeing him out in front anymore. Is this normal behavior for a shrimp, could it be he's getting...

    Escaped Electric Scallop

Good News! The feather duster grew a new head. My daughter noticed him this morning. Not sure how or why it happens, but it seems to have.

    Red Worms?

I'm gonna have to vote against the spaghetti worm after seeing some pics of them. I haven't noticed any white stringy things coming from them. I'll see if I can get a picture of them (him or her).

    Red Worms?

My wife and I noticed a red, really thin worm in our live sand. I tried to Google, but couldn't find anything definitive. He would come up towards the surface if direct light was off, but as soon as direct light was applied he retreated. Any ideas? -Chris

    Escaped Electric Scallop

Nothing out of the ordinary. I did add a leather to the mix the day before, and I remember seeing the duster in one piece. He was definitely dead (although the body is still in the rock where he was. I'll have to keep a closer eye on things.

    Escaped Electric Scallop

I can see him from the side of the tank (feather duster). He's under some live rock in the back "upside down". Not sure if I can get to him or not.

    Escaped Electric Scallop

I agree I may have been a bit neglectful. But he was doing fine until just recently. Now that I think back, I may have missed a Phyto feeding. Argh... My feather duster decapitated as well... Man, what next?

    Escaped Electric Scallop

We noticed today that our electric scallop has seem to have exited his shell. Not sure why or where he went, but has any one had experience or seen this before? I think he left because he couldn't open the shell to feed maybe. It look to be a bit wedged under some live rock. Don't recall when...

    Cleaning the Filter

This questions leads to another question of relation.... What about the back tanks on a Nano or Aquapod? Mine has these little white growths (look like little pods so to speak) lining the walls. Should I siphon and suck some that that crap from the back out? -Chris

    Feather Duster pulled from "body"

Update - Well so far so good the Feather duster is doing well, is seen out quite a bit and it appears he is growing a new "shell".

    Feather Duster pulled from "body"

I spoke with my LFS and the fish guy said it was a 50-50 for survival. I asked about leaving the tube in and again it was 50 50 he would find his way back, or regen a new one. -Chris

    Feather Duster pulled from "body"

I was trying to reposition a feather duster off the LR and seem to have pulled his "body" off. Now is still fastened to the rock and in full bloom, but he has not "bod" to escape into. Will he die like this or regen a body? As well, should I leave the body tube int he tank? -Chris

    Flowerpot - Dying?

He is near the front of the tank and our Skunk Back Cleaner Shrimp hangs out in this area and may be irritating him. I'll see if moving him else where helps. If he does indeed start to die, what should be done to prevent him from "affecting" the tank? -Chris

    Flowerpot - Dying?

Not sure if this picture will really show what you might need, but it does show it's ticked off state. -Chris

    Flowerpot - Dying?

We have had a flowerpot in our new nano reef for about three weeks now. After a recent "shake up" trying to find and capture a hitch hiking crab, the flowerpot doesn't seem to be doing well. I have read some of the other articles here about other flowerpot issues, but mine doesn't seem...
