    Ben's 10-gallon

Im going to be adding more flow to this tank. What Maxi-Jet Powerhead(s) should I buy? (please keep in mind I have an AC 70, and a zoo med micro pump powerhead) I am getting another powerhead to better direct flow over the rocks because my small powerhead provides flow to the back of the tank...

Im not really sure what you mean by weird sponge, the only sponge that came with my filter I am currently using. But make sure to clean it out atleast once a week. I have the black mounting legs but you might want to try the extendable ones because other wise it makes it difficult to clean. I...

    Ben's 10-gallon

It was a little to powerfull, it would push the sand around leaving a spot of the tank bare. However I cut the impellar down a little bit and now its fine. I have intentions of coverting it to a fuge in the future. http://www.hellolights.com/201xcoaqpcho.html Make sure that when if you buy...

    Ben's 10-gallon

Forgot to add that I tested this tank 2 days ago and they were as follows, Nitrate:0 Nitrite:0 Ammonia:0 pH:8.2 Alk:4.5 Calcium:555-higher? All is well after adding the YCG and a few hermits and snails. However, I am concerned about the Calcium. Is it fine how it is?

    Ben's 10-gallon

It has been a while since I had really done anything with this tank...it basically collected cyanobacteria and algae.... :fu ... But in the past few weeks a lot has gone on.I removed the cyanobacteria with the aid of chemipure, and I have also started to clean out the algae and rearange the...

    Brown stuff

Are you running any carbon? If so that would be why the chemi-clean isn't working. Are you sure thats cyanobacteria? Is it slimy and come off in "sheets"?

Calcium, Strontium, Ph Buffer, Phytoplankton and Iodine

Another very usefull method of acclimating your fish with minimal stress is called the drip method... #1.To do this pour the bags contents into a small bucket, and icecream bucket would work well. #2.Then place a large glass full of tank water onto a higher surface. #3.Then get some...

Alkalinity and Calcium (+ stocking Q's)

Well I went to the LFS today and after seeing 30$ for YWG I quickly changed my mind. Instead I got a Yellow clown goby...I know that there are many reports of them not lasting long due to cyanide, but I couldn't resist... I also got 3 bluelegs, I held off on the snails. I am currently...

Alkalinity and Calcium (+ stocking Q's)

After reading a lot about Royal Grammas and YWG I have decided to go with the YWG. Does anyone have any advice for the care on these fish? Thanks in advance, Ben

Alkalinity and Calcium (+ stocking Q's)

My alkalinity has now been stable at 4.5 and I belive my tank is ready to be stocked (The Alk was lowered with water changes, and is now remaining constant). My medium sized feather duster, which I thought had died, has been coming "out" of its tube for the last week. Also my Nassarius Snail...

It's been six months...My first nano!

Sorry, I know this is an old thread but I figured this would be useful for people trying to find an answer to the same problem. In order for Erythromycin to work effectively you should not use carbon. The carbon will filter out it out making your efforts pointless. HTH.

Alkalinity and Calcium (+ stocking Q's)

I only use the buffer in my topoff water, im assuming thats ok? However I do beleive that I am overdosing so I will be using a smaller amount from now on. So any answers to my other questions?

Alkalinity and Calcium (+ stocking Q's)

Nope, the hermit did die. I noticed it not moving for some time and check in the shell...well it didn't move so I just pulled it out of the shell and it was definately dead. Does anyone think that this may be the result of a problem molting, possibly linked the the alkalinity? I have an idea...

Alkalinity and Calcium (+ stocking Q's)

Today I discovered that my hermit crab has died...I noticed it looking poorly a few days ago and that is why I tested my tank. Could this be linked to my alkalinity and calcium issue, how likely is this? Also would it be unwise to get a fish or coral considering my alkalinity and calcium? Ben

Thinking of getting a bigger tank!

I reccomend www.premiumaquatics.com. They offer many varieties of live rock, and its fairly inexpensive. I ordered the nano-rock and was very pleased with the diveristy of life, and the quality. Ben

Alkalinity and Calcium (+ stocking Q's)

I have recently tested my Water for alkalinity and calcium and here is what I got... Calcium: 315 mg/l Alkalinity: 6.75 meq/l Im a little concerned about the alkalinty level. Is it fine like that? Or should it be lowered? How do you recomend it to be lowered? Also I use KentMarine...

    Cyano Outbreak

Sorry for such a delayed fallow up, but this how it all went down... The chemi-clean worked fairly well. I didn't get an extremly clean tank right away like some people claimed to have happened to them. However after a few treatments the cyano began to die off and now my tank is free of it. I...
