Xenias - will they survive the anemone death?

When my anemone died (see post entitled "anemone trouble"), I thought it killed my xenias but now I'm not really sure if they are dying or just injured. Please look at my pics and let me know what you think. Although the "flowers" are all messed up and the color is off, they still look alive...

    snowflake eel

Seriously, sorry for that loss. I lost my impulse-buy anemone (IBTA??) this week only 4 days after the purchase. I know how it feels.....

    lettuce nudibranch

Hyuk hyuk!! :D My BF squirms when I mention more tanks too.....so now I'm thinking of finding homes for my freshies and converting their 29 over to marine. I love them, but the marine stuff is so much more interesting. I'm obsessed!! I sit in front of the stupid thing every night and look...

Confessions of a naughty newbie....new tank pics

Actually, the water from Wal Mart is RO/DI. Living in N. Wisconsin there aren't alot of choices and that option was suggested by other users on this site if memory serves. While I can get nice livestock from Foster & Smith at times, they don't sell water, and there are no pet stores besides...

    lettuce nudibranch

Jennie, Thanks for the advice. That sounds like a good plan. I'm not giving up the idea of starting another tank though....... I think I might finally be getting the hang of this. Karen

Confessions of a naughty newbie....new tank pics

How do I raise my Alk? I have some buffer, but have never used it - is that what I use? I have been terrible about doing water changes, but have vowed to start doing them weekly to keep the HA under control. I use Red Sea salt usually mixed with RO water from Wal Mart. This time I was...

    lettuce nudibranch

I've ordered a lettuce nudibranch to help control the HA in my JBJ NC12DX. Does anyone have any experience with these? If you run out of algae in your tank, can you feed it something else? I've taken other steps to control the HA (not yet succesful, but promsing) and don't want to starve the...

Confessions of a naughty newbie....new tank pics

Thanks for the good advice as always! :maitre I've learned my lesson. If you look at my post from yesterday - I lost the anemone. I immediately did a 50% water change and my tank is bouncing back nicely. Since I started this thread, I changed my whole aquascape and scrubbed the hair...

    anemone trouble

update Thanks for all your good advice! :maitre So far it appears my only loss was the xenias (and the anemoned of course). My zoas are slowly starting to open again. Yay!! My capnella looks like it's going to be fine even though it hasn't opened again. It looks otherwise healthy...

    anemone trouble

About a week ago I purchased a bulb anemone for my NC12DX. All was going fine and my ocellaris clowns were hosting it well. Yesterday morning we found the anemone sucked through the intake grill of the tank. :doh Unfortunately, I was forced to tear the anemone apart to get it out...

    mixing & storing water

How do you mix and store your water? I have been buying RO water from Wal-Mart and just mixing and storing it right in the jugs. The only problem I have with that is the water temperature is too low. In the summer it's not a problem because I can set the jugs out in the sun to warm, but here...

Confessions of a naughty newbie....new tank pics

Hi all! It's been a couple of months since I posted and alot has *happened* to my tank in that time. My confessions: 1) I have made several impulse buys. I know, I know..... I have a very generous boyfriend and we live within a half hour of Foster & Smith. We just can't seem to help...

    Frag Fun at JohnandDawns

J&D- I took your advice and cleaned the hair algae off of all of my rock. I did about a 20% water change and also rearranged my corals more in line with your recommendations. (Not enough time to post new pics unfortunately.) The tank looked great for about 2 days and now its already coming...

J&D's tanks are wayyyy cool in person! I'm a fish person, but they hardly have any fish and I could stare at his 125 for hours given the opp. I will try photobucket later, but for now....have you had enough? I haven't. :gcool
