    Lighting/Hood Help

The problem with those wooden hoods it that it will melt if you mod it out and put in PC lighting. I wouldn't suggest it. I would suggest getting a good auto top-off float switch and not worry about evaporation.

    whats going on?

I'd also like to add that when I said go to your grocery store to buy RO/DI water - I meant from the machine in the parking lot or at the front of the store. It is definitely NOT spring water or anything like that which you'd buy on the shelf. It specifically states that their water has been...

    whats going on?

Hmmm...without knowing what exact water purification processes the plant used, my guess is still your water source. Was the 55 gallon drum you used brand new? I'd try a massive (40-60%) water change and just see if you begin to see improvement in your coral's health. Just go to Walmart...

    whats going on?

All your water parameters seem okay but I would have to agree that it must be something with the water source you are using. Can you explain that again? Where do you get it? Is it RO, DI or distilled? Having you been using the same salt all this time as well? Sorry you're having...

    Newb starting a pico

Hi Mihkaail, I would go with an Aquaclear300 HOB filter for your tank. Yes, take out the foam pad b/c it will just basically create a nitrate factory in your tank. I'd throw in some rubble rock, sand (if you can make a divider) and some macro of some sort for filtration purposes. A little 9W...

    Feeding with cyclopeeze

Yeah, I've been turning off my powerheads and skimmer for the last few months while feeding Cyclopeeze and the corals really seem to benefit. Sometimes I leave one small PH on just to get the stuff circulating.

    Actinic

Well, by definition 50/50 should be 50% daylight or 10,000K and 50% actinic blue or O3. This balance, most people would agree, is the most visually appealing if that is what you are asking. I run my power compacts in that ratio as do most other reefers I've met. At some point though, lighting...

    So, my tank is ready!

Yeah, pics would be great. I think 2 to 4 small fish would be fine in your 21 gallon. I've only got one 6-lined wrasee (which is a great fish) in my 20 gallon but I'd be fine with at least two more if I wanted. I'm also running a protein skimmer which helps keep the water quality in check.

    Jawfish

Yeah, I agree. 2-3" sandbed would prob. be ideal. Katsmooth, I was kidding about contacting that guy. It was an inside joke concerning some experiences folks on this forum have had with him in the past. Sorry if you really did contact him. Welcome to Nanotank!

    hi new here....

Okay, I'm locking this post b/c its just too long (6 pages with 77 replies). At some point, we all need to realize that nobody on this board is really going to gain any useful knowledge when their post has this many varied topics.
