    what is this?

Sweet! Hmmm...they're only in my sump, but could get sucked into the return pump to my tank. Should I keep 'em or just let things be? There's a ton of dirty floaty gunk in the bottom of my sump that I want to clean up, but these q-tip sponges are on the walls.

    what is this?

Sorry no pic, I've got something interesting growing in my sump. All of the sudden along the walls of my sump are these little white oblong fuzzy pill jobs with little straight hairs sticking out the end that's not attaching them. Anyone have any idea of what they are? They look like...

    Yellow Clown Goby

I've had mine for a month or so. He's totally cool. NEver hides, eats well and putters about. He eats mysis and cyclops-eze, but not every time I feed my tank (about every other day). Good fish!

    Phischy's Quest: Pt IV

Deal was too good to be true, seller never got back to me. Dammit! Oh well, this weekend I"ll be picking up a colt coral and pulsing xenia, so I figure that should satisfy me for the short term. And then I'll be brewing beer! This month is a Honey Ale and if Rob talks me into it...

    Opinions Needed on Fish Recommendations...

You need to visit a LFS and see what they have. Your cleanup crew is basic, variety of snails, variety of small crabs, I'd say 5 to 6 of each. 15lbs of LR is fine. Your fish selection will depend on tank size, get a book and read up and cross reference against what is available...

    Anyone here in College?

to the marine bio aggie: double major. If you have two degrees you'll be more able to market yourself better. As for what to bring to college: clothes, quarters, good attitude. It's amazing, but you really don't need much, you'll find yourself accumulating a ton of crap over the...

    Responsible Reefkeeping: Caulpera Taxifolia-FYI

This topic came up on www.sdreefs.com and it concerns the macro algea Caulpera Taxifola and it's impact. The state of Cali has deemed it illegal as an invasive speices if released into the ocean and it is now a misdemeanor to own/sell/purchas in the City. For those that don't know, as a safe...

    brians

I usually feed my brain beer. It tends to like it. As for my open green brain, I just drop mysis/cyclops directly on top of it and it poofs out and eats it...somehow. All I know is it's fat and happy.

    Lighting/Hood Help

Again, they type of light you want is dependant solely on what you want to put in the tank. Just want fish? Then get a normal output flourescent. Want soft corals, bump it up to PC 30-55w dual (10k & atinic). Want LPS, maybe even more lighting, want SPS? then even more plus more flow...

    Lighting/Hood Help

Conn, I'm confused as to how exactly wood is going to melt? Cheap plastic, yes, wood....maybe you're using something I'm not. As for lights...go look at what you want and figure out what it's requirements for lighting/flow are. Like incysor suggests. Also consider this: these tanks tend...

    whats going on?

Read the ReefCentral article, it explains everything there and how the filters work in laymans terms. When I said spring water was RO, I meant the Glacial Water machines, they say it's spring water but it's just tap water run through an RO filter. If it says 'spring water' it is straight...

    Phischy's Quest: Pt IV

Ok, latest round of major upgrades: from 110w to 220w of PC lighting. Thus with the latest hardware I figure it's time for a new thread and the difference I encounter from here on out. The last piece of hardware I want at this time is a 'fuge, but maybe in a month or two. Old lights...

    whats going on?

Dragon, I'd read the Reef Central article, it's not very long and will explain what RO (Reverse Ossmosis) is and what DI (de-ionized) is. It's a filterting process to remove contaminents and particulate matter from water. Spring water is either RO or natural spring water. Nothing is ever...
