    Phischy's Quest: Pt IV

I have dark blue spotted shrooms, and in the last pic those are purple shrooms. I'll take some more photos this weekend and get 'em up.

    Phischy's Quest: Pt IV

In looking back at my photos from early on, I've noticed that my hairy shrooms have probably lost 60% of their orgional mass, with two being small now, I'll have to start feeding them again, do hairy shrooms need intense light? what about flow? Also my alveopora seems to have bleached...

    Phischy's Quest: Pt IV

I need to post some new pics. My tank has hit and passed the 1 year mark. It's amazing how some of my stuff has grown!

    Fragging

In my 40 gallon I have some rics. Really big and beautiful rics. The problem is I have upwards of 7 or 8 or 9 on a rock 1/2 the size of a golf ball. It's epoxied onto my LR and now I'm starting to wonder if I can't frag them and space them out to give them more breathing room. They are in a...

Anyone here have an organic vegetable garden?

I live in a warehouse so I won't be gardening anytime soon, well other than hydroponics but that's what my tank is for! My rics and xenia are the only things really taking off. If I could I would, I need a yard, with all the sunshine out here I'm sure I could have some wicked produce. I'm...

    King Kong and Tears...

If you haven't seen the movie do not read my post: I saw King Kong and it was a really great movie. It's hard to realize it takes them an hour to even Get to the island. I really love long movies and this one didn't make me think about how long I'd be sitting in that...

flatworm exit - some random thoughts and observations

It's the toxin in the FW that'll harm your corals, so just make sure you vacume out as many as you can. Also use a powerhead to really agitate and blast into the hard to reach place so that the FWE gets everywhere, this'll help with zero re-occurance and as DJ said, dose it again a week later...

Those darn flatworm thingies are back -- in droves!

I don't know if that's the reason I have zero pods or not, but I do know I have none in my tank now and I don't have any FW either.

FWE may also nuke your pods. I've used it several times and I haven't seen any good pods in months.

flatworm exit - some random thoughts and observations

Iv'e got a 40 gal with just shrooms/zoas/softies and a flowerpot. I've had FW and these days I just dump 1/2 the container of FWE in the tank and use a powerhead to blast the nooks and crannies of my LR. Sometimes no carbon and no water change. I do suck them out as best I can first to reduce...

    Phischy's Quest: Pt IV

Thanks, I've got leads on candy cane/frogspawn/kenya tree frags, so hopefully it'll start being more populated here in the next few months. I still want to find some striped shrooms, they're amazinglingly hard to come by out here. I also want another open brain, maybe a red one this time...

    Phischy's Quest: Pt IV

That would be an alveopora, flower pot coral. Mine is doing great but I apparently they die fairly easy. I recieved it from a friend who left town, so I didn't buy it per se, it's been thriving in captivity now for over a year, still growing and everything. It even survived whatever crappy...

    Phischy's Quest: Pt IV

Haha, there are so many rics on that one little rock it's damn near impossible to actually relocate and move. I think it has 7 or 8 actualy heads and most of them have more than 2 mouths. Unfortunately, I can't frag it without tearing them all up. Plus, it's one of the best features of my...

    Glass or Acrylic

In hindsight, I wish I had gone with glass due to the scratching issue. Also, glass doesn't need the same amount of structural support on the top, which just blocks light due to salt creep.

Should a new sand bed be considerered when moving?

Mine was established for 11 months when I moved, no ill effects. My bed was heavily disturbed as well due to my rock going to the bottom of the tank. When you set it back up, start the tank up and let the water clear before adding corals/critters back in.

    Phischy's Quest: Pt IV

The fish lives, I'm not sure what it's been eating but some of the kids found him the other night when some food came close to his spot and he pounced. Little bugger is still hanging out, behind the rock, under a ledge, upside down. What an ass! So this concludes the move and everything...

5.5 gallon bad luck & tank crash

Major bummer and in thinking about it, my light ballasts are right under my drain downpipe, I should move those just to be safe. Cool that you had fun camping, bummer you lost a tank in the process.

    Holy Reef Tank, Batman!!

A lot like the guy with the tank built out into his garage. I can think of better ways of spending $20,000 though. Like taking a trip and snorkling!
