    my new 5.5

Very nice looking setup. I'd weigh in with the others on the clam question. 46w simply isn't enough to keep one alive for long. Watts-per-gallon is a USELESS measurement. I kept a crocea under 130w for over a year before losing it in a move. Even that was cutting things close, and I had...

Nice find Sadie. I haven't seen any red/orange ones with stripes like this. B

    20 gallon stocking

Personally, as much as I like coral banded shrimp, I dont' think they're a good choice for nanos. When they get larger they tend to be agressive. In a large tank there's plenty of room for the fish to avoid them, but in a a nano they just don't have as much space. If you're gonna go with a...

So far I've only heard good things about them. I'd call them and check on it. B

    some MH suggestions please...

MH lights lose their effectiveness after 10-12 months. While the bulb will likely still light up, the wavelength given off slowly changes and makes it less and less useful for photosynthetic purposes. HQI lights are supposed to last 4-5 months longer. The only sure fire way to tell, is by...

    cutting glass

Awesome. One tip: When the LFS near me drills holes they buld an epoxy dam around the area they're gonna drill and just put a small amount of anti-freeze inside it. It should work fine with water as well. That way you don't have to worry about clamping a hose off to keep things...

    20 gallon stocking

Pretty much anything you mentioned will get along fine with the six-line. Take pygmy angels off your list. A 20g isn't enough room for them. You'll want to stay away from fish, (or a sand sifting starfish), that eat by sifting sand. They tend to be picky eaters, and a 20g doesn't have...

    Anemone ID (H Malu/M Doreensis)

While it looks like a plate to me as well in the pic, there's no way that anyone with any experience actually keeping saltwater critters would confuse the two. I can't wait til you get it and can get some better pics. B

    some MH suggestions please...

Probably. I'd at least keep it until you install the HQI. That way you can try it out with, and without it, and see which way you like it. B

    Back Up Generator???

For a 10g tank a couple computer UPS battery backups should work for you. In the event of a long power outage you'll want to reduce your photoperiod, so you're really only gonna run your filter pumps, and maybe a powerhead. If it's a really long power outage, you can get inverters so...

    Lowering SG and Salinity...

Salinity doesn't need to be changed that slowly in saltwater tanks. A change from 1.027, to 1.025, is hardly anything. If you were heavily stocked with very sensitive corals like some acroporas, then I'd say use a drip line to slowly change it over the course of the day. Checking every...

    some MH suggestions please...

20k alone is very blue. Lots of folks that use them don't bother with actinics. I've got one on the 75g, and it's a big change when the VHOs go out, and just the 20k is running. B

    Lowering SG and Salinity...

I'd leave it alone until you get RO, or RO/DI water. Everything has adjusted gradually to the rising salinity levels, and it'll be fine for a couple days. B
