    Mike's new Pico....

Man, I've been out of the loop for a few weeks and just stumbled upon your new tank Mike. All I can say is...HOLY CRAP! Looks like you're off to a really nice start. I hope you figure out the temperature problem. What are the temps getting to? What kinds of temp. fluctuations are you...

    New Additions

Its kinda hard to see the detail with those pictures. My guess is that is from a phone cam.... I'd keep an eye on that xenia b/c it spreads quickly. Everything else looks good. Best of luck with your yellow clown goby.

Wow. Really nice tank and great start. What kind of goby is that and how is it doing? Any updates?

    Fixture for a 5 1/2 gallon tank?

Not sure what you mean by 'fixtures' but this is what I did for lighting on my 5.5 gallon nano. I'm very happy with it. http://www.nanotank.com/viewtopic.php?t=14&start=0

Pico transitioned to JBJ 6 gallon...a new beginning

It seems that a few of your 6 gal and shrimp pics are down. Any chance you could fix it. Tank is looking nice. Where'd you pick up the 6 gal cube?

    Hydroid Help

I've never heard of anyone getting that many hydroids. They also usually die pretty fast in my tanks. Weird. At least they don't really harm anything.

Is this a plug in and play kit?

How much did that end up costing you? I bet it was a pretty cheap solution. I like it. :D

    new with questions

I would check out the Sponsor Section of this site. Lots of the site sponsors sell really nice frags at decent prices. You might want to also post in the Frag Swap section here http://www.nanotank.com/viewforum.php?f=24. With good weather upon us, you might find some nanotank members that are...

    Tank set up price?

Just to let you know, I spent quite a bit more that $500 on my 20 gallon tank (and I actually got the tank & stand for free). I have PC lights, which are the cheapest for sure. All the other equipment adds up quick. Then the corals and LR you add will really start to add up. I'd throw a...

    help please!!!

Yes, the cycling period can last from one week to 5-6 weeks. I would either have a very limited photoperiod or turn the lights off alltogether. I'd just research and see what is right for you. Yeah, not a very exciting part of the hobby. Remember patience is the key here.

What are the ABC's of starting a nano tank?

Vafik- Coral Magazine is a pretty good one. Issue 1.2 : Apr04/May04: Nano Reefs is pretty good. It can be found at most good LFS. Here is a link with some more info: http://www.coralmagazine.co.uk/about_koralle.php I don't think that is the official site but it gives you all the info, etc.

What are the ABC's of starting a nano tank?

Yep, I can't emphasize enough how important it is to research all of this stuff at first. If your only loss is a few lbs. of uncured LR I wouldn't worry about it. The reality of the hobby is you unfortunately will have a few more things die on you. I'm sure you want to keep die-off to a...

    Heaters???

I ran my tanks without heaters for about two years before I really started to pay attention to the temperature swings that I was seeing. At my old house, where the temperature was more stable (better AC/heating unit), I didn't notice such big temp. swings. At my new place, I observed my...

    # of crabs/snails

Yeah, sounds like you've got the clean up crew covered now. I bought all my LR upon setup with a few of my tanks and had to eventually clear some of it out because of all the frags I acquired over the years. Believe me, it will add up. Nope, no resemblance to Napoleon. Just like the movie...

    New photo idea for april!!

Hey guys and thanks for the ideas. I'm actually going to start up a post that will ask all members for new contest ideas/themes here pretty soon. I like the 'buddies' or 'tank friends' theme a lot. It will be the theme of one of our next contests. :specool:

    # of crabs/snails

Hi Krystin and glad you found the site. Just off the top of my head I would suggest you add 4-6 more mini-blue leg hermits and maybe a fighting conch. Not knowing all the specifics of your tank, such as fish (ie. bioload), its hard to judge the cleanup crew amount but you should be fine...
