    70w MH issues??? cutting on/off

Do what you must but start off with the cheapest repair first. The bulb sounds most likely then the ballast. Have you contacted the manufacturer to troubleshoot it? They might be able to explain what is going on better than 'wild-ass guessing' it and spending more money than you need to.

Oh, what a day makes in the life of a cycling nanotank!!!!!

Sounds like you are off to a good start. Don't worry too much about your algae bloom. Diatoms are typical of a fresh cycle and will go away with time. You can keep your lights off until you get your clean-up crew. It will only feed your algae bloom. Other than that I would just wait 1-3...

UPDATE ON PROGRESS OF 29 GAL. BIOCUBE

I agree. Even with seasoned water from another tank, it will do good to have more of a bacteria growth period. I don't know how other feel about it, but I would feed the tank a few small pieces of mysis or dry food to see how the tank handles it. Worse case is you start another cycle, but it...

    29g Trogdor's Paradise

That's a pretty good idea. I'll see what I can do when the replacement pump cover comes in.

    29g Trogdor's Paradise

Added photos. I designed a 10g refugium that didn't go as planned. It was to sit under the stand, where most of my supplies are located now. The siphon from the tank to the overflow couldn't handle the flow that was needed so my overflow was really underpowered for the pump. So I...

29G with 10g fuge plumbing questions

Well I must give a big thanks to everyone for their input. I am now a proud owner of a closed-loop system. I filled the 29g tank up today and I am sitting at about 1200gph. I was sure that it would end in a sand storm. Much to my surprise, I haven't seen any large amounts of sand blowing...

29G with 10g fuge plumbing questions

If I were able to put it above then I would have just had it overflow back into my display and wouldn't have needed 95% of the piping. I was trying to conceal the 10g in the stand, but ultimately it failed...or my knowledge of plumbing isn't as high as I had thought.

29G with 10g fuge plumbing questions

What an exhausting week this has turned out to be. Last Friday I went to Home Depot and purchased everything that I could imagine that I needed; pvc, unions, tee's, elbows...etc. I made a mock up Saturday while my wife went out shopping, go figure...lol I ordered the Mag-Drive 9.5 pump from...

    Silicone

Is there a suggested type of silicone caulking to use on aquariums? I just purchased (and used) a 100% silicone caulking that states not to be used on aquariums. Of course I didn't see the fine print on the label until i went to check the cure time. This is 100% silicone, clear if that helps at...

    WHICH SALT

The amount of salt that it takes to obtain the correct salinity is based on your water source, not the printed directions.

How to achieve ph of ~8.3

Wait until after your tank has cycled to start testing and using additives to increase your pH. There are elements that occurs during the tank cycling that can mask the pH of your tank, therefore making testing your pH during your cycle completely useless. (or so I have read) Here are a few...

    WHICH SALT

Hey I understand about LFS prices. I was calling around for a Mag pump and everyone around here, except for one place (which was sold out) was more than double the cost of Marine Depot. IIRC I will be using Instant Ocean

29G with 10g fuge plumbing questions

    1. I'm not planning on pulling water from the surface. The U-tube should be about 3-4" below my water surface. Let me know if you think I really need to skim the water before it enters the fuge. I do plan to have a strainer on the intake to the overflow to keep livestock from going on an...
