    24 gallon nanocube

Doesn't sound like your new tank went through a cycle. I would be extremely careful adding too much livestock at once. You may end up with a full cycle then you would have to move everything to your other tank until your cycle is over.

    Help electricity cut out

There are several things that you can do to help your tank through this. You can add warm water but be sure to warm the tank slowly. You don't want to put in boiling water, that will be worse than the temp dropping too low. If you have any heavy blankets, toss them over the tank. These will...

    OPINIONS NEEDED

Starfish are definitely neat little guys but I have never been able to have a system where I could sacrifice my inverts for one. Most stars eat everything good in your sand beds and they will normally eat most snails and inverts. I value a good clean up crew more than stars.

    Custom 24x24.5x8 rimless shallow cube

The GE Silicone I Kitchen and Bath is the exact same silicone that I purchased about a month ago and found it on the label after I already applied it to everything (including a few pieces of base rock...yeah that sucked getting that crap out of porous rock). The silicone is intended to be used...

    Custom 24x24.5x8 rimless shallow cube

You might want to check that silicone. Chances are that it contains anti-mold ingredients. In small print it will say 'not for use in aquariums'. I know because i made the same mistake.

    ? MAKING DEAD ROCK LIVE

personally i would put it in another tank just to make sure that there's no dead bacteria deep in the rocks that hasn't decomposed. if it's going into a tank that doesn't have any livestock then I would give it a good rinsing off then put it in your tank. otherwise i would QT it until there's...

    ? MAKING DEAD ROCK LIVE

I used all dry rock on my tank and the cycle is going pretty good. I added 20lbs of live sand to the tank when it cycled and it kick started my cycle. If you are adding it to an existing tank then I would cure it in a bucket with a piece of live rock or some live sand to seed the rock before...

What is the best fish for eliminating algae?

if phosphates are the issue and you have a mechanical filter with replaceable media then you can substitute some of the carbon for phosphate remover. I have done that in the past and it works rather well. It beats spending a ton of money on a phosban reactor if it's a temporary problem...

    Refractometer

Aight, I just got back and all of my parameters were right on target. The refractometer was dead on with the LFS's along with my test kits. Last night I lowered the salinity to 1.027 per the refractometer, since i have no livestock and still in the early stages of my cycle. Now the hydrometer...

    Refractometer

I'm heading to the LFS after work to have my water tested there. I'm planning on taking a cup of water and running my standard set of tests; ammonia, nitrite, nitrates & salinity before I head over. I will have them test the cup for the same that i tested it for to get a good comparison...

    Refractometer

I just received mine in the mail today. I ran out and purchased some bottle water that says it is filtered by RO. (I'm in the process of saving for an RO unit, i know tap is bad...) Anyway I calibrated the refractometer and tested my water. 1.033...WHOA! Ok so I figured that I screwed up...
