    water change

Sorry, did not mean to sound harsh, but maubee started this thread a month ago, and it was not meant to be an educational post. Start your own post and then you can move it in the direction you want. Your tank is already the best at removing nitrogenous wastes. If you were to run a...

    Newbie here!! setup help

Cycle with the LR/LS in your tank. Don't dose till you have more XP, salt mixes have all that stuff and will be replenished with water changes. Do more research before you buy. These are all things you should know before your tank arrives. The only clam you could probably keep is a...

    water change

Why would you recycle water? Would that not defeat the purpose of water change. Jeff, post your own thread rather than hijacking another. You won't get many responses asking questions on month old threads.

    "moon lighting"

Just buy a simple 12 adpater and cut the end off. There are only 4 wires coming off the stock LED's. Disconnect the LED's from the ballast power supply and termintate those connections. Then hook the two red wires from the LED's to the positive wire of the 12 volt. Do the same with the...

    Some product Questions:

the other thing I forgot to mention is that I've read that Purple Up is basically a Calcium supplement and that if they dose calcium or Kalk as well, they can mess up their levels.

    Some product Questions:

Seems like a waste of money. No substitute for time to get a mature looking tank. IMO dosing in a newer tank is a little risky. Extra nutrients you really don't need. Everyone's tank will "purple up" over time, so who can really say if it helped or not? Besides, who wants to take a...

    Need a coral ID

Hey, I just got a frag of this. It was sold to me as an LPS, but it seems almost like a horn or encrusting montipora. It does have largish polyps though that extend at night. The thing is absolutely gorgeous and the price was right. Any help/care advice would be appreciated. The closest thing...

    How hot is too hot?

I agree. So much time and energy is wasted trying to get our temps down to an unrealistic standard tempwise. Especially for the Nanocubes or aquapods. Buying chillers, fans, leaving the running the AC at 68dgrees, leaving the canopy open... Its all too much. My tank is running between...

    Contemplating an upgrade. Need advice.

I just ordered the 3.36 upgrade for the NC24. The extra light will be great, but did it mostly for the extra 36 watter that can run independently with an actinic. It will really show off my LPS's for dawn and dusk. I figure the upgraded heat shield is also a great compromise to any sort of...

    SCARED OF LIGHT!

Just be sure when you are running FO, you don't get fish that won't be reef safe if you buy corals.

Great point about the loss of reflecting capacity. I never thought of that. That setup you pointed me to is great. Will look into it. Thanks

    Contemplating an upgrade. Need advice.

Hey, I am thinking of doing this upgrade: http://nanotuners.nanocustoms.com/nanot ... cts_id=288 Has anyone done this, or heard of doing this? There seems to be several advantages. Separate controls for the PC lights would allow the new ones to be actinic and can then simulate...

    Help with ID

I've had cyano on my sandbed, but why would it attack a coral? Is my cabbage a goner? Any ideas on the black stuff? Here's an even grosser pick from before

    Help with ID

Okay, so I come home today and my cabbage frag is all shriveled and has this reddish slime on it. I moved the cabbage a bit and you can see some of the slime transferred to the rock to the rock just to the left of the Star Polyps. Here is a shot with my firefish for scale...

Predatory crabs that will attack your fish when it matures. REally tough to catch too. you will have to trap it, or take out the rock with its lair and isolate it. Big claws = bad news. Many people don't know they've got one until their fish start getting injured, or disappear.

8.0 is on the low side. 8.2-8.3 is perfect. Low PH is toxic to marine life and low Alk will mean that trace elements will precipitate out of solution (especially calcium). Just oxygenating water can lower PH dangerously. You can buy buffers like Kents's, or some people use Baking soda and...

One thing to watch, if you are using native sand, that's volcanic in nature It won't have the buffering capacity that oolic aragonite will so watch your PH and alk levels closely. You may have a tough time keeping calcium levels up... so I'm told. Someone back me up here...
