I would check with your LFS guy and see if he will hold the fish after he gets them (like a quarantine time) just to make sure they are healthy and you aren't putting potential disease in your tank.

yea definately take your time-- i've been wanting one for over a year but haven't had the guts to jump in yet (and the $ to get some of the things i need :D )
but definately lots or research i actually find new questions that require research all the time.
as long as its not illegal in your area and you aren't introducing bad things into your tank it prolly gonna be happy with all the life
