in terms of wattage, how many t5's would you need to equal the light output of a 250w MH? It seems like t5's are less expensive, but that all depends on how many bulbs you actually need to run...

The only things i would change would be a larger water change - 30% once a month. Also, make sure the tank is fully cycled before adding ANY livestock. Put some fish food or a piece of shrimp in the tank to help it cycle - once nitrates, nitrites and ammonia all equal 0, you're good to add...

Would it be possible to keep SPS and clams under only T5's? Or are MH still the way to go for those?

Not sure, but I have seen emerald crabs range in color from deep emerald green, to pale white/green/brownish... maybe he's not getting enough algae to eat? Not sure if that would green him up some more.
