at first i didnt think i would ever find stuff like that around me but in the end i found some of my better zoa's from my LFS rather than online. those are awsome zoa's though, i have a couple of varities that are shown. lighting plays a big part in the coloration of the zoa's. i am also a big zoa fan.

I am a big Zoa fan, but I am fortunate enough to see frags like that all the time at my LFS.

Just thought I would share... here is one of my favorite pics of a zoa-dominated tank. It is a member...or former member... of another site though i dont remember their name.

I've had two frags that's been in my tank over 2 weeks now and have not yet opened. Water parameters are all normal, and another frag that i purchased is thriving well. Does anyone know why these guys are being stubborn?

they can be irritable test your water post your perameters , have a LPS cross test to make sure that your test kit did not get contaminated in some way , this will help you to see if there is something in the water , also what is your placement and your lighting again

little urchin - light and tank params are everthing when it comes to zoas - my prettiest (favorite zoa) i got all browned out from a LFS that didn't have proper lighting - wish i had a before and after shot....

nice pic reefman - good lighting and great photography = beautiful zoas that shot is top down which also helps with the colors - you'll notice most online dealers do that - especially with clams - much better view then through the glass - ya know???

leaky alk300??? you mean Ca or what?? don't matter though - zoas need light and flow to be happy with your lighting 4" of water would be OK i think??? just guessing of course you may have to play. the term zoa groups many different animals into one group so there is a lot of inherient variety in their specific needs

Actually your nitrates are likely causing some problems...20 ppm is pretty high. When was your last water change, how big was it, and do you have any mechanical filtration media?

Last water change was about a week ago, about 15%. I'll be doing another one in a day or two. Currently, I'm running an Aquaclear HOB designed for 20 gallons, but I ordered a Fluval cannister filter which should be coming in in a few days. I use store-bought NSW (Catalina Water Company brand... they're 9.00 at Petco) because it's cheaper for me than mixing my own water (I would otherwise have to buy bottled RO/Distlled water by the gallon). Any idea on how i can reduce the nitrates other than a water change?

I would start doing 30%-40% water changes once a week as opposed to only 15%....that small of a water change doesnt have enough of an effect on nitrates, or anything else for that matter.

Make sure to be cleaning the mechanical media in the canister (if you will have any) once a week or more to avoid excessive nitrates and nitrites.

oooo lovely zoas reefman and johnanddawn...only in my dreams i'm afraid....

i only have stock lighting so far with fish and live rock, a couple of feather dusters, some hermits and a couple of batches of hitchiker polyps (brown and brownish i'm afraid...but better than nothing)

Soon you'll get yourself some nice zooas too, lil urchin. Question about zoas. Do they poop? I was loooking at my colony today, the ones that have opened and the ones that refuse to open, and this tiny, black pellet was coming out of the center... is that zoa poop?
