I had xenia in my tank for almost 8 months. I cut it off the LR then it died. I got a big stock of some new stuff and now its shriveled and looks like its dieying. why is this stuff so tempermental? It lived and thrived for the longest time but now it wont stay alive.

I've never had much luck with xenia. It's strange how it seems to do well in some people's tanks, but not others, even when they're both experienced reef keepers, with similar setups, and great water quality.

that's rather odd, I haven't had a problem with xenia. I bought a two head of redsea pulsating xenia, and a one head of xenia for my girlfriend. Both are doing incredibly well. In my pico though, they are more active, I see they already split from two head to three head, and they must be slowly weeding to other areas of my pico.

In my girlfriends JBJ, nothing special, but I do notice that at the end of her rock, two or three little arms are forming and pulsating too. So in my case no problems here. I think DJconn has had no problems either, he's had them grow like crazy and he's fragged them and had them up for sale or trade.

That is correct. I actually couldn't keep the stuff alive about 2 yrs ago and this one frag I had died, regrew, died, and finally regrew. I've aquired about ten frags now of xenia and have a small tank dedicated to xenia frags. I bring them to frag swaps and trade/sell them.

The stuff is just plain weird like incysor said. Maybe they come back stronger after dying or something. Iodine does help I've noticed.

Everything comes back stronger after death, haven't you seen Dragon Ball Z ? hehe Just kidding. As far as the Iodine, I do notice when I drop the "Iodide" from seachem, it does react and pulsate like crazy after an hour or so.

Dragon is right about this one, life that survives usually comes back with stronger resistances.

Keep in mind that I lost my entire beautiful colony of pulsating Xenias, only to find small babies growing where they use to be.

I was certain I lost everything after a massive mini cycle that hit my tank 1 month ago.

Life is wierd and very bizarre and full of mystery. Just like Malcolm from jurassic park said, life has a way of breaking new boudaries, sometimes even painfully.

In my case lets hope they don't take over the tank and become Tiny Rex Xenias, hehehe
