Will these get too big?

My tank finally finished cycling (yay!) so now i want to ass some fishes.

I was just wondering if these would get too big to keep in a 6 gal nano:

1. Copperbanded butterfly
2. Blue hippo tang (dory  )

I'd most likely only get one of the two, since i know i won't be able to keep both at once in that tank.

It looks like you can buy these as small as 1-2", but i'm not sure if they'll end up growing to be too big for my tank. If so, i have a few other ideas for fish, i just really like how these ones look...

Neither of these are good choices for a nano tank. Period.
The size of the fish isn't really a factor here. Even as juveniles they need more room to swim than is available in anything less than a 55g. Hippo tangs can easily outgrow a 55g in time.

No angels, not even pygmys. No tangs.

Some clowns, most gobies, most blennies, some wrasses, pseudochomis, some basslets, are good candidates to look at.

Here's liveaquaria's choices for nanos... I haven't gone through all of them but just looking it over quickly they've got some good choices.

These sites generally have recommended tank sizes for each animal. They're not perfect, and I'd still do more research, don't rely on just my advice, or just one sites. Do searches for potential purchases on RC.

As an example more than one of these lists mandarins as doing fine in a 35g tank...The consensus on most of the Reef boards I'm on seems to be a bit higher, and then only in mature tanks, that have thriving pod population.

yeah, that's what i was originally thinking...

I figured i'd just be able to go with gobies and the like, but i saw those, and they looked really nice. But i figured they would either get too big, or just need more room to swim.

Well, back to drawing board :?

Hi,

Although the sight of a small 1.5" blue tang in a nano is an impressive sight, in such cramped quarters, they just seem to be very prone to whitespot. This, apart from having to keep upgrading in the future make both species an unwise decision in a nano.

Just my 2c worth.
