will I need a chiller?

Hi, I'm planning on getting a JBJ 24 gallon nano (18"x19.6"x19.7"). It has 2x36 watt CF lights in it. I'm planning on retro fitting another 36 watt CF light in it to bring it to 108 watts of lighting. This setup does not come with a chiller. Does anybody know or have a similar setup to this...will I need one?

I don't have this setup, but if your home is at 72 then I don't think you will have any major issue keeping the temp at about 80.

Well, the kit comes with extra fans. Nanocustoms.com said that the extra cooling fans will actually help lower overall temp. Which is good, considering I live in Florida, and having a house at 72 degrees only happens in the dead of winter, lol.

I use fans solely for the cooling of my 45gal and it works fine. You just need to be prepared to top up evaporated water with RO or rainwater as evaporation is the method of cooling.

I live in a climate like yours and I have also occasionally had to use bottles of frozen water.

Once my tank temp was rising fast so I had to get some party ice and dump the whole bag in there.

It is a pain in the but without a chiller, you are always wondering what will go wrong. Now I have an Air Con so no worries.

I noticed that you placed your rock on some plastic "egg crate"? Is that to relieve pressure from the bottom? That's smart!

Actually that was to save money on Live rock and create more 'space'

I cut some small terracotta pots in half and zip tied them to the egg crate to create a low flow zone where 'pods and fish could hide.

I need to put in some more substrate to hide my evil ways :!:

If you do some research on 'cryptic zones', you will find out another reason I do this.

I believe it is another biological filter..

My pod population is thriving and I have not fed my tank for the past 3 weeks. With only 2 clarkii clowns and a very small moray, this is no matter to boast about, but it proves that even in a nano, a self sustainable system is viable. My fish are still very fat and looking to breed soon.

Sounds very interesting! Can you suggest any internet resources? I'd like to look into that! Thanks!
