white specs

It's day 14 and I'm encountering some new issues and have additional questions.

On Wednesday 6/15 I added my cleanup crew (6 Margarita snails, 6 Red Leg Hermit crabs, 1 Sally Light Foot) and they immediately cleaned up. In two days they literally did a Mr. Clean on my tank. However since they went to work I notice there are white specs suspended in the water (similar to a very light snow falling) and on the surface. I've included a photo of the surface. Is my cleaning crew too many??

Also I'm wondering if the return head from my pump can really flow 290 GPH as spec'd by mfg. Again photo attached.

The surface looks normal for a tank that doesn't have a surface skimmer of some sort.

If you do the cassette-tape case mod, it'll clear it up. Do a search on RC for it, it's the simplest mod I've seen yet.

I don't know what to tell you about your pump and GPH. It's probably pretty close to the 290gph, but bends, ts, elbows, in plumbing all restrict flow and drop the rate. A lot of people upgrade the pump from the stock one that comes with the cubes. Check Dragon's, and MikeGuerro's posts, to see what they upgraded their pumps too.

I'd like to do the cassette skimmer myself, but sadly I do not own a single one, especially since I moved out, I have nada. I haven't been to a tower records for years, but I'll hope they still sell them at least :) a nice black one. If i dont point the nozzle on my tank up, itll get all gross on the surface of the water.

If I cassette skim, I can use the nozzle to point somewhere else.
