I WAS DOING SOME READING EARLY THIS EVE & RAN ACROSS AN ARTICLE ON CLOWN FISH DID I READ CORRECTLY THAT ONCE A FEMALE IS NO LONGER IN THE TANK THE NEXT LARGEST MALE CLOWN WILL THEN REGARDLESS BECOME A FEMALE AS IN THE FROG SPECIES DOING THE SAME....... ALSO IN A 24 GALLON NANO TANK IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE SPECIES OF CLOWN COULD CROSS MATING HAPPEN
BEING THAT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A VERITY OF CLOWNS & SOME GOBIES IN MY TANK

AGAIN ANY FEEDBACK & ASSISTANCE WELCOME

yes in nature the largest/ most dominate fish will change sex and become female. all clowns are born as nonfunctioning males.
in your tank the best way to get a pair is to buy two very young clowns (preferable tank raised) and grow them up together. in a few years you'll have a mated pair.
it is best to choose the speices you want and stick with it not combining different species. clowns are/will become very territorial and you'll have nothing but trouble otherwise. a shortcut in the process is to buy one clown that is 2x as big as the other. however this works great in big tanks where the smaller one can hide if the big one rejects and beats it up at first but in nanos there is no place to hide so it often doesn't work and you end up with a stressed fish that dies or gets ich.
