ok, so im going to move to college soon and wanted to plan ahead
i am going to get a nano cube 6
and everyone knows thatt 18w is nothing....
so i was going to go topless and build a canopy and do a DIY project

i was going to do MH + pc actinics
should i go with 70w mh? or 150w mh?

should i build a canopy or should i get a clamp on light like the viper?

would there be any room left for the PC lights?

also, where is a good online site to purchase the retrofit kits?

(i was going to get the tank from nanotuners.com because that is the only place that sells tank only...)

Thanks
Brandon

You could easily build a 70 watt MH with 2 PC supplements that would fit over a 6 gallon. You dont need 150 watts on a 6 gallon. Go to illuming.com and check out their 70 watt retro kit with everything including the lamp for $140 shipped.

http://www.illuming.com/catalog/product ... cts_id=283

I have done business with them and they are great. Their product is great too.

Then you can use the 2x18 watt PC's that would come in the 6g nanocube de's.

Go with the Ushio 10,000k, and get two true actinic pc's to supplement.... that would be awesome!

i was thinking of doing an "edgray" tank
all premium zoanthids
eagle eyes, red people eaters, radioactive dragon eyes and such

or an anemone tank like BTAs but thats just stupid....

bulb wise i was thinking of 13k or 14k for the MH
and true actinics for the 18w PCs

(the nc6 only comes with 1 18w....)

i was wondering if it was possible to take apart the coralife fixture
its the 12' 2x18w, if i could take out the ballast and stuff, then i wouldnt
have to buy a retrofit kit for the PCs, instead, i could take and strip that
light for parts....all in theory anyways....

(100th post!! triple digits baby!! o yea :strip :strip :strip)

you can get a deluxe nanocube that comes with two lamps... a 14k with actinic supplements may me rather blue... but give it a shot.

they dont make deluxe six gallons tho.... ;-)

anyways, when i make the canopy, its going to be out of wood
when i drill in the ballasts and stuff, do i need to cover them because of evaporation?
or it doesnt matter?

oooops... im sorry.

It would be best to cover them, but you will be fine without them being covered... that is how my old canopy is.
