Im obviously new to this site but it seems friendly and helpful. Apparently I've had a nano tank for quite a few years now and never knew it. Ive never even heard the term nano tank before today and didnt really know what it is. I currently have a 20g long tank. I have a mixture of live and dead rock a few inches of aragonite substrate with a few handfuls of crushed coral thrown in. I have a yellow tail damsel, a green file fish and a goby or blenny (forgive me I cant remember what he is  ) I have one tiny nassarius snail. I think my blue legged crabs have dissappeared and I havent seen my sandsifting star in about a week. I would love to improve my lighting as I have a standard hood that came with the tank and maybe add some more LR. I know I cant put more fish in it but would eventually like to get different fish. I had a hawaiin feather duster but had to return him because the filefish kept trying to eat him. Anyway I hope to meet more of you and learn more about nano's. Im also thinking about setting up another smaller tank. Is it possible to take say a 5g and put LR and maybe some mushrooms or something in it?

Welcome to the site.
There are several people on here that have smaller than 5gal tanks, so yep it's certainly doable. I'm not suprised that your sandsifting star is MIA. It's probably gone. There just isn't really enough life in a 20gal tank's sandbed to keep them alive for long. I would be suprised if your blue legs are gone. If they're dying off you might need to double check all your water parameters to make sure something isn't out of whack.
What kind of fish would you like to replace your current ones with?

Hi ravenhawk abd welcome to Nanotank.com :gh:

I would love to see some pics of your 20 gallon sometime. Yes, a 5 g is definitely possible. I also have a 2.5 with mushrooms, GSP and some xenia in it. You can check out pics under the Members Tanks section. Take a look around...

Well as for the sandsifting star Ive had him for over almost 2 years now. He was originally in my 55g long I had but 1 1/2 years ago when I moved he was downgraded to my 20. The bluelegs may still be around I only had 2 that survived the move. I think the others may have been hiding in the CC that didnt make it to the new tank. I just did a water change a few days ago and all my levels are right where they should be. I dont think they are dying off they are just so small I dont see them often. Im not sure what I would replace my current fish with. I like flame angels and coral beauty's but I need something that can deal well in a smaller tank. Just something that doesnt hide all the time like the goby (blenny?) does. Hes always under a rock unless hes eating. I would also like another urchin but not sure how well he would do in a smaller tank

Hi Raven,

Welcome to nanotank. You've had your system going for some time, that's impressive in itself. Any chance you have some pics? We love to share our pics if you do have some....
