Unknown Creatures on Glass

Hi Guys,

I found some small beige dots (half mm) with a set or fine hairs around them on my glass this morning. The fine hairs are colourless except for white dots on their tips. The hairs themselves look like arms and sway slightlyin the current. They are similar in orientation to certain starfish with many arms. I was just wondering if any of you've had this before and any suggestions on what they are.

My own thoughts are they are:

(a) Planular larvae of some coral
(b) Some sor of starfish
(c) Some sort of anemone

Personally b is unlikely cos there arent any starfish i know of in the tank.

Any idea?

PS would've posted pics but they're too small to be visible on camera.

You could also be describing hydroids, do a search and see if the pics match what you have. Good luck, Skip

Hydroids are a type of jellyfish and the only place I have ever heard of them being a problem is in a tank with dwarf seahorses, they sting the SHs and can kill the babies. One of the cures I have heard of being used for them was a liquid wormer called Panacur. Before I tried to do any medicating I would find out if they are any problem in a reef setting. I am happy is was able to help ID them for you. Good luck, Skip
