Two lighting issues (10 gal, and 44 gal)

I have recently set up a small 10 gallon nano tank, that i'm hoping to use as a frag relocation and habilation site to stock my 75 gallon reef tank. Right now i have an algea problem in my 75 because someone poured more iodine then they were suppossed to into the tank.

For the 10 gallon i have currently 1 type of mushroom that is acclimting its self, before i attempt to slice and dice it.

For lighting i currently have a Marine-Glo 20" 15 w... and a Power-Glo 20" 15w... needless to say, whatever type they are i don't think they are at all strong enough for the tank. A mere 30 watts.

What is the best lighting option for a 10 gallon nano, that i intend to grow frags in? PC? Halide? VHO??? i dont really know. I don't want to overdue to lights, bcause won't too strong of lights kill or bleach out the color???

My other tank is a 44 gallon... and they only reason i'm even mentioning my 44 is because its obscure. I have a 44 gallon perfecto corner pentagon tank. It is 24 inches deep... on the top, i have just enough room for 2 20" standard flourescent striplights. I'm hoping to acquire a glass top, if i do i need some help trying to figure out a way to light this monstrosity. I'm asking you all, because you all seem far more able to think outside standard sized tanks to get the best lighting options. Any ideas you'll have would be greatly appreciated.

I do believe many reefers swear by Metal Halides for lighting, but since you are proping mushrooms, i think that a coralife 96w fixture will do just fine or a current usa 80w fixture

I dont know mcuh about the 44 gallon tho....

I would MH on both honestly... for the frag tank it will give you superior growth. For the 44g it is necessary for a 24" tal tank if you want corals...no other lighting will be able to penetrate down to the bottom, plus it is hard to fit any other type of lighting that is nearly as powerful over a hex tank.

Hope that helps... and welcome to nanotank.com!!

Unless you plan to never keep anything but low light corals in the 44r then I agree with the others on the MH.
On the 10 you can use the PCs that Brandon mentioned with good results or you can DIY a canopy and install your own combo of PCs (I think you can go up to 36 watt bulbs in a 20" canopy). You may loose some color with MH on the 10 but you would get superior growth and the color will return under PC or VHO lighting (even if combined with MH).
