Too much lighting - JBJ12dx Nanocube

Are the two lights that come with the JBJ12dx too much for this size tank? I was getting quite a bit of algae growth, and decided to remove one of the lights (about 2-3 months ago). The algae growth is now completely under control - i.e. using a snail and daily wiping of the glass, the rocks look like rocks again (rather than chia pets). JBJ used to sell these tanks (the original, not the dx) with one light only, so are 2 lights too much?

Any comments? Does anyone else have both lights in the 12 gallon tank, and are able to keep algae under control? Thanks

No the lighting is by no means too much. My guess is you are using tap water?? If so, switch to RO/Di

I have 12g Nano Cube which came with only one lamp. I have since upgraded to two. I dont have an algae problem.

However I did convert the center chamber to a fuge. As well a live rock rubble I keep Chaetomorpha growing in there. I think this helps a lot in removing the nutrients that other algae grow on. It grows so fast that I have to remove half of it per week.

I mix my own water using RO water from a local store.

How long has the tank been running?
