That air hose thingy on power filters/submersible pumps.

I've been using powerheads for a long time, but I've never bothered to attach the little air hose that comes with it. Does it help a lot?

It is there for oxygenation mainly for use with undergravel filters. No need to hook it up at all on a reef as long as....

1) circultion is good...
2) you don't have a hang on overflow box that would use it to suck the air out to create the siphon.

Using it also increases evaporation, makes a salty mess, and is annoyingly ugly to look at.
