Tank Size?

Well first off a hello is inorder to everyone, especially since I am new here and this is my first post :bigthumup:

I have been in the hobby for about 4 years but always learning something new, but I am inbetween a rock and a hard place :cryinga: . I just purchased a 20" current SunPod with the 150W metal halid (couldn't pass up the deal picked it up at the LFS for $215 out the door :thanks

So anyways, I am having a hard time finding a tank for this guy :cryinga: I know it will fit over a 10 AGA but I think its a little bit to much light for it, especially since its 150W. Was wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction in finding a good tank to put this over.

First off!

:welcome

20 gallon AGA tall should do just fine. same dimensions of the 10 if I'm not mistaken. The MH should allow a nice range of corals from sand bed to top!

First off thank you for the welcome and quick reply! But I am pretty sure even the 20 highs have a foot print of 24", oh well :cryinga: Anyone else with suggestions?

My 18G high is the exact footprint of a 10G its just much taller. This would work out well for you though since you do have MH. I have a 250W pendant over mine.

I think there is a 15H and like shaggy said, an 18H. Keep an eye out too for some custom sizes... or you could always make your own, usually cheaper than buying one. all it takes is a glass shop to purchase/cut the glass, some silicone and a couple other minor tools etc.

You could always hang it over a 24" tank too.

i would sudgest a 18h. it fits perfectly. but i9 stil think that it is to much watts for a a 18 but that just me.

I have a 150 watter on a 20L which is only 12" deep... the 18T should be at least 17" or so deep. It should be good, just keep the lower light stuff on the bottom.

if im not mistaken......mike g had 150w MH over his 6gallon. so i dont think that would be to much for even a ten or 15tall. i had a 15tall and 10g.......the 15tall was an awsome tank, ill be doing one in the future.

Hi and Welcome! A 15H, 18H or 20H sounds good. They're not as commonly sold as the standard 10 & 20 gallons so you'll have to do some searching around. Usually it's the independent pet stores that carry odd sized tanks. It's wierd because at my LFS they were charging me $45 for a 15 gallon and $30 for a 20L.

I found my 18H at the local petsmart. As for lighting go w/ 250W MH pendant. I wish I would have done this from the start. The depth on this tank almost makes MH a must.
