Take 2: feeding tricks for new wrasse?

Got a lovely Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse two days ago. At least, he was lovely when i saw him in the store tank; I haven't seen him since! I know they hide for a while when they're new, that's not what worries me. I'm just not sure how to check if he's getting any food? it's hard to get frozen food down to the bottom with my rock formation in the way, and it tends to float, and with my peppermint shrimp, there's no chance anything will get to the ground and stay there. Is there some other trick? I have one of those clips with mesh for gel food, but the frozen stuff doesn't stay in there. should i take some tweezers and try to shove some in front of his nose down there? if he doesn't come out of hiding in the next day or two to grab food, I'm going to start freaking out....

ok. so it's been 8 days. last night, the wrasse came out for a bit, shocking me away from a hockey game. He seemed to flounder in the current by the filter intake, and I'm hoping it was just from current. (that, or from laying under a rock for the last week). he made it to a rock on the other side and rested there until his breathing calmed down, then went back to his hiding hole. I still have no clue if he has eaten anything. His body looked great, actually, as did his color, but he obviously can't go another day or two without eating. I tried some garlic on seaweed to no avail. I tried clipping some mysis shrimp in front of his hole, but the damn peppermint ate it all. I've tried tossing flake, krill, seaweed, and brine in front of his hole, but the current pulls it away. i don't know what else to try. I figured if he was hungry enough he'd come out and eat, but not sure that will happen. he got too worked up on his brief swim last night to eat i think.
any thoughts? any food that will stay in place or i can somehow keep away from the shrimp? i lost one of my shrimp, too, which is odd. never did find a body.
