Sump cleaner?

Is it a good idea/possible to put say a snail in the sump area of a Aquapod (area where the pump is) to keep it clean? Or is it beneficial to have "stuff" back there?

I can see little white growths all over the sides, you touch them and they disintegrate. Other than that just algae like stuff.

it wouldnt hurt but it might run out of food and die........i usually just leave mine to grow whatever....

it may get sucked into the pump and that couldnt end well... I wouldnt do it.

I had my skepticism about the idea and that's why I figured I get the public opinion on the idea.
