I absolutly love my Pentax Optio S5i...it taked OUTSTANDING point and shoot shots, great tank shots, but not-so-good macros. I mean it does a good job and has a macro setting, but cant get those single-polyp shots and all that. It is 5mp and has a movie setting and like 18 other settings. It even has a mode designed specifically for underwater marine shots that is to be used with the optional underwater cover.

Plus it is about the size of an altoid mint can.

I made my decision based on several of the top photography magazines suggestions. Most of the magazines stated that the image quality was the best in it's category and even better than some of the more expensive cameras.

If this camera isnt available, the optio SV is even better, but obviously more expensive.

Ok, well i work in a camera shop over here in the uk...

The first question i'm going to ask you is how much you're wanting to spend?

Early suggestions, for good mid range cameras:
Olympus SP-700
Olympus Mju 600/700/800 (Olympus are good quality for the price)
Nikon Coolpix 7600
Konica Minolta Z6

If you're looking at something that costs a bit more:
Panasonic Lumxi FZ30
Canon Rebel XT (I think this is the 350D equivalent out there)

Hope this helps so far :cool1:

i have a canon sd100 and while that is ancient the digital elph line is still around... but now its up to like the 550 or something like that... takes some of the best pictures ive seen from any point and shoot and its nice and small... mine is actually huge compared to the newer ones im sure but at the time it was the smallest... anyway like i said awesome pictures, not so great macros... like reefman said macro will work but not for anything awesome like a single mushroom with the most detail, etc...

i also second www.dpreview.com they have everything you will need to know
