stock lighting JBJ 24 cube

Perhaps I should ask this question first, before hunting down retro kits?! Will the stock lighting on a JBJ 24 cube (2 x 32 watt CF's ... tank is about 19.7" high) be sufficent for some LPS like Euphyllia, such as frogspawn? Or should I strictly stick with soft corals until I add another 32 watt CF to the hood? Moreover, any idea how low I can place these corals if I can. Thank you! :strip

That will be fine for those corals although you may need to check how many k your lighing is. 6700k is ok but if you can get your hands on a couple of 10000k's corals will be better off.

I would be placing the LPS above the halfway mark. Under that lighting, the LPS and zoas should be placed as high as possible with mushies, xenia and maybe a lobo towards the bottom.

Zoas need lots of light. People tend to think that because they are a soft coral they can go down the bottom.

In nature they are a shallow water or tidal zone species so they need lots of light to grow and show all of their colour.

Is a low placement ok for the xenias? I don't want them to stretch...a problem I had in my old 45 gallon. I know that nanos, since they aren't as deep as traditional tanks can give off a different, better, intensity of light......right?

True.

and are very adaptable to changes in light. I have one growing in my overflow, that is right under a 150w MH, and the parent is 2 foot lower under a ledge.

The stock lighting should be a 50/50 10k actinic bulb if it is a JBJ nanocube. Those corals should do OK, but I may look into adding that extra bulb.

I had a frogspawn that did quite well in my 24 nano with stock lighting. Kept it close to the top. Went from two heads to twelve. Then my pair of Percs "loved" it to death. :-(

Wow that's impressive, as I have never had frogspawn produce THAT many heads. How long did that take? :)

I DID get the upgrade, so I'm at 108w now. I just finished cleaning up the mess the installer did (dust, loose wires, & missing screws). So I didn't have the lights on for too long. I'm mostly concerned with the temp. I'll watch it closely tomorrow.

Hopefully the fan upgrades help with that. :)
