What are some good fish to add to start cycling your tank. Iam also using live rock. Should i even add fish. If so what are some good starters that are fairly inexpesive.
you dont need fish to cycle your tank
just live rock and patients
adding live rock will have some die off
thus cycling your tank , just remember to
monitor your testing levels and when every thing hits 0 you can add
the fish do so very slowly so that the bacteria has a chance to catch up
adding fish to cycle a tank is cruel there are still sites that promote this
method but most do not any longer patients and time are the key to cycling
your tank sucessfully
I also forgot to mention that cycling can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks or longer so testing is a must during cycling
I agree with sadielynn , To cycle you have to add in some way , ammonia to your tank. This comes from die off or fish waste. The safe and good method , is to add live rock and wait , if you add a fish to cycle you are exposing it to all the ammonia variations and it could and maybe it will harm the fish.
