Starfish Help

I have a General Red Starfish (a.k.a. Cushion star or African Red) - looks like a Choco chip only red not brown. I have had him for almost a month and he was doing great - very active and fun to watch. The guy at the LFS said he would scrounge around and eat left over algae and food in the substrate.

Well, for the past couple days he has been pretty sedentary and is curling all five of his arms back around to his middle. I don't know is up. Is this normal? Is there a problem?

What else can I feed him to make sure he gets enough nurishment? He parks himself on the seaweed but I know he is carnivorous and would like more than that.

Any experience, suggestions, etc. always welcome. Thanks.

I just picked up a sand sifting star, but not for that I wanted one but to see if this rare shimp I picked up will eat them: (I have no idea what it eats and it's driving me crazy, lol)

Tiger Shrimp
Phyllognathia ceratophthalma

Anyway back to you, if you have had them for about a month and it's acting as it now, it probably having a hard time finding a food source. When doing some reading I found that you can offer them some silversides and some krill. You know when they are dying when they start losing limbs.....some toss them into refugiums/sumps where it can feed and eat all the goodies in there.

Well I fed him some krill that he seemed to eat right up but this morning I found him dead in the tank.

Sorry about the loss, but these aren't reef safe stars in the first place. They're known coral eaters just like chocolate chip stars...Any of the ones with the large bumps or protrusions aren't a safe bet with your coral.

Even a lot of the reef-safe stars aren't going to fare well in a nano. There just generally isn't enough food for them to make it long term.
