SRS NANOSKIM & FILTER HELP

I just got my Nanocube 12 gal. from NanoCustoms and I also ordered the SRS NANOSKIM for my tank. Well i installed it last night on my tank and where the back of the skimmer meets the wall of the tank is a thin gap all the way around. Also the clamp on top that holds skimmer on does not seem to fit very snug to wall to make flush fit. I can put something to wedge behind the clamp to make it fit lil better, but then it opens up the gap more at the bottom. My question is, is this suppose to fit like that??? seems like water could seep through the gap all around the side of the skimmer. I guess you could silicone around it to fill thin gap, but then you cant adjust the flow?? So can someone please let me know if its suppose to fit kinda of loose or it suppose to fit snug to where no gaps are showing around the edges? If it's not suppose to be like this, how can i fix it?
Also what do yall recommend to take out/ or put in the filter chambers. I read few post where they say take all media out and put live rock in, is that the best way to go?? I also have the Maxi-jet 900 coming to me in the mail so i can upgrade the pump. Will the MJ 900 be enough flow for the whole tank or will i need to add more flow/power head?

any help or suggestions would be great, as i'm trying to get this right the 1st time around......newb here sorry :maitre

Thanks!

The nanoskim just hangs on the wall of the tank and is not meant to be a water tight fit. It is design so that MOST of the water is skimmed from the surface of the tank.
A MJ 900 should provide adequate flow for most corals but depending on how you aquascape and what corals you keep you may or may not need a second powerhead. Basically the main thing you are looking for is no stagnant areas in you tank, you want some flow in the entire tank. If you are keeping high flow corals you may want to add another powerhead for additional circulation as needed.
As far as the built in filtration I use a single sponge in the first chamber which has to be removed and rinsed at least weekly, this can be easily accomp[lished along with your weekly water change by rinsing the sponge in the old tankwater that was siphoned out before discarding it. I also run a bag of carbon and/or Chemipure under the sponge. Others I have heard of running Phosgard, Purigen, or many other resins. I use LR rubble in my second chamber and have my return pump and heater in the third. There are a few other ways people run their tanks, some with skimmers, other adding lights and making the second chamber into a refugium, etc. But this is how I have been running mine.
There is also no need for apologies, at one time all of us were newbies and had to ask questions to learn the hobby.

I run my 6gal NC the same way as skipm. My nanoskim does seem to fit more snugly than you described though. Sounds like the clamp is offset a little bit. I'd just relay all this info to Chris and see if he can send you out a new one. Good luck with it and keep us posted.

:Welcome and well i run my chamber almost the same too...

1st chamber: 1 sponge and some LR (i clean the sponge every 2-3 days)
2nd chamber: bottom to top.... LR chemi-pure (carbon), Phosphate remover & purigen
3rd chamber: poly filter, heater and MJ 900

And well like mentioned not need to be sorry... thats why we are here for to do our best to help you and others

When I fill my tank with water, will i have to mess with the water level in chambers to get flow/level right. I filled it up last night with water just to test run every thing and seems like i could not get water level right in tank. It was about 1/2'' under top tank trim. I messed with the skimmer to see if i could get level to raise up w/o going over back wall, could not do it. If i filled it up with water and adjusted skimmer about high as it would go so the water level would be jus above the trim. It flooded the chambers. I guess it takes some messin with and adjusting to get level right. Well my sand and live rock should be coming in soon, so will be getting ready to setup tank for cycling. I will have to mess with it b/f i get everything to get level right. Any thoughts/ideas??
Also my skimmer was trying to float up and out of position. I still have not found any thing to hold it in place. I'm think about lil peice of velcro to hold it in place. I have some adjusting to do b/f my stuff gets here.

Thanks all!
