Spectrum??????/

I'm buying a metal halide and don't know what kind of bulb to get. What do all the spectrums mean. Which one should I get. This is a lot of questions but I want my tank to be perfect. Would 175 watts over a 24 gal be too much. What exactly is alkalinity and what should it be at. What about pH.

6,700k bulbs tend to be very yellow. They're tend to be cheaper, and I've read conflicting reports on them being more effective for coral growth than the other spectrum

10,000k are probably the most popular and give a crisp white light.

14k are a bit blue, but some like it better than the 10k.

20k, are very blue. Lots of people will run these and skip actinic supplementation.

As for the rest. Use the search function. We've just had several threads that will answer your questions.

hey check this page out:

My opinion would be that a 150 pendent would work better on a 24 because of the size/shape and all. But here is a pic of a 175W pendent I just built myself it is 12" by 15" - total cost with a 14 K bulb about 300.00 but I bought the best components I could afford and made the hood out of solid oak and oak veneers - it could easily be made cheaper. I also have the ability to add sup actinics if I choose in the future, where most pendents don't.
